Brilliant Book for Babies and Young Children, 04 Jul 2008
I bought this book for my twin grand daughters when they were four months old. They loved the pictures and quickly picked up the repetition and loved hearing all the animal noises. By six months of age, they wiggled with delight every time they saw me pick up the book. They now try to push the sound buttons for themselves and never tire of having it read to them. Definitely the best book so far that I have bought for them.
Fantastic, 21 Jul 2007
My little girl adores this book. She loves to press the buttons and especially the 'cow' one! Thoroughly recommend.

Product Description
Age 18 months-4 years. When Thomas and Bertie decide to have a race the excitement hits fever pitch as the pair seem to be heading for a photo finish. But Thomas soon pulls out all the stops, and before long it is clear who the fastest little engine really is... A solid, glossy board book--ideal for little hands--filled with bright illustrations and easy-to-follow text. Ideal for reading aloud to tiny tots, who will love the noisy little button on each page that makes the sound of Thomas puffing steam. --Susan Harrison

My little girl adores this book. She loves to press the buttons and especially the 'cow' one! Thoroughly recommend. A good early Thomas book - highly recommended, 17 Jan 2003
This book soon became a favourite with our 20 month old son who is very into books and currently especially Thomas books. He would ask for 'Bertie' since this is about how Bertie the bus challenges Thomas to a race. Although he enjoyed the sound button, and this did not last many days of rough toddler attention, there is plenty of opportunity in the text for making your own noises.
Excellent, 02 Jan 2001
I think that this is a very enjoyable book, especially for the younger readers, they will love constantley pushing the buttons on every page, creating amazing sounds and following the great storyline.

This is an absolutely fabulous book! Not only does it have all the attractions of Usborne such as the storylines, illustrations, characters but they have come up with a 'take-wherever-you-are-going' toy! Brilliant for the car, going to Great-Auntie Lucy's/Grandma's etc! It's robust and looks good too. All three will be wrapped for nieces and nephews and I will be buying extra to keep in case of unexpected visitors! Fantastic value.

Lots of fun!, 03 Jan 2007
Beautifully illustrated book with a catchy tune. Sing it once, you'll find yourself "boogie woogie oogie-ing" all the time. My niece and nephew loved the song (though they preferred my terrible singing to singing it themselves) and dancing to the music.
In addition, the children in the book are of different races and one of the girls is a wheelchair user. Wonderfully inclusive book!
Well loved book, 09 Mar 2004
This is a colourful beautifully illustrated book illustrating the animal boogie song. My children have enjoyed it at daycare so we purchased it for home, and were fortunate to also receive a cd with the song on it. My children love the colourful book, but it's hard to get them to spend long looking at the book - they just want to dance the animal boogie!
Boogie Woogie Oogie...., 10 Feb 2004
Don't buy this unless you're willing to perform it at least once a day! Great fun though, and our 20-month daughter loves it. Bright, colourful illustrations of various jungle animals and scenes, and cheery song on CD (not one of those high-pitched singers favoured by nursery rhyme albums). Follow in the book as you stomp, leap, flap and swing around the room. Recommended as a 5 minute aerobic workout for parents too.
brilliant colours, wonderful rhythm, catchy words, 27 Nov 2001
I first borrowed this book from the library for my son, aged almost three. He loved it so much that we have bought a copy for him, and four more for his friends and relatives. The book is a series of "down in the jungle" segments, with different animals, doing different actions, but all joining in the animal boogie: "boogie woogie oogie". Each animal is being watched by a different child. My son loves to join in with this, and has his own very special boogie woogie oogie dance! He loves the bright illustrations, too. It's a wonderful book to share with children of about two and a half upwards. A friend's six year old loves it just as much! As a parent, I like the fact that each animal is marked with it's proper name and where it comes from on the final page. The children are also a good mix, including children of different ethnic groups. There are plenty of opportunities for talking points. I'd highly recommend this book to parents, friends and relatives of any child who loves to share books!

My 2 year old LOVES this book - asks for it every night at storytime - it's very easy to read the tales and he is deft at pressing all the correct sound buttons as you read through the story. Lovely pictures (tiny snails/butterflies etc)and easy/clever teaching tool for the storyteller! The missing star is purely because there are only 3 x tales (Goldylocks, 3 little pigs & Gingerbread man) - wish there were a couple more!!

Perfect to share with little ones.

Great book but 2 minor disappointments, 08 Sep 2008
The book is great. My son enjoys it. The problem I have with it is that the pages are not board pages but soft pages. At his age (14 months) he is liable to tear the pages long before he gets any mileage out of the book. The sounds are wonderful and he is fascinated by them. The dog picture (of Spot) should have barked like a dog. That's how children learn. In this book the picture of spot has a laughing sound to it which is funny but doesn't teach the child the sound of a dog.
my sons favorite book!, 05 Oct 2000
What a wonderful book! At 9 months old my son spotted this book on a book store floor waiting to be reshelved and suddenly started screaming and pointing at it and has never looked back since! This book is a truly interactive experience with precise sounds and wonderfully bright colours - ideal first read. The books structure is virtually timeless with your child bringing his own variations as he gets older. The on-page commands for pressing the buttons are very clear and provides years of fun as it is quite strudy. My advice would be to buy this now as this trully interactive experience is completely precious and will have your child running around after you shouting "ook!" "ook!" everyday!Happy reading.

My 3 and 5 year-old both love this book. Out of all the Fireman Sam products they have, this is their favourite. The delight they get from pressing the button and hearing the siren is quite wonderful. I am surprised by how much pleasure this book has given them both. I highly recommend it!

Good Buy, 20 Nov 2008
My 2 year old LOVES this book - asks for it every night at storytime - it's very easy to read the tales and he is deft at pressing all the correct sound buttons as you read through the story. Lovely pictures (tiny snails/butterflies etc)and easy/clever teaching tool for the storyteller! The missing star is purely because there are only 3 x tales (Goldylocks, 3 little pigs & Gingerbread man) - wish there were a couple more!!
Excellent fun!, 03 Nov 2008
A fun and interactive way to read, with nice sound buttons. Lots of super Usborne illustrations with lots to see, something different each time.
My 2 year old daughter loves finding the right sound button to match the picture on the page. She really likes 'reading' the story together with me.
Siren-sounding heaven!, 13 Jan 2008
My 3 and 5 year-old both love this book. Out of all the Fireman Sam products they have, this is their favourite. The delight they get from pressing the button and hearing the siren is quite wonderful. I am surprised by how much pleasure this book has given them both. I highly recommend it!
Brilliant fun, 31 Mar 2003
This is a fantastic book for child and adult alike. Not only do you get really involved in making all the train noises but the child can anticipate what happens next - who Duffy Driver picks up at the next station, what they are carrying etc. The illustrations are excellent and my son and I can take ages on each page talking about what we see. He gets really caught up in the story and his vocabulary has expanded as a result of all that he sees through the book. Reading is so important for young children and with books like this, it becomes a pleasure for them!
buy this lovely book and enthrall your child, 16 May 2001
This is a lovely book with wonderful illustrations. The text builds in momentum as the train races to pick up passengers to get them to the fair on time. There was a real sense of urgency about the style of writing which had my 2.5 year old son twitching with excitement. Now that he knows the story he loves looking at the pictures and pointing out all the things he knows in the richly illustrated pages. A gem of a book...buy buy buy..I can't wait to get the others in the series.I loved the story as well and I'm 34!!
An action packed story with fabulous illustrations., 20 Oct 2000
An action packed story with fabulous illustrations which my 20 month old son will not allow us to put down. The Little Red Train has to come to the rescue when the fast train to Pebblecombe Fair breaks down, and Duffy driver gets the passengers there via a series of absolutely charming stops. At each station there are hundreds of things to look at, with locations from industrial town to farming country ending up at the seaside at Pebblecombe. The text is excellent too with lovely train noises and a building sense of excitement as Duffy makes the little red train go faster and faster. Textual and illustrative threads go right through the story which never patronises but is eminently suitable for even the youngest child. This is a lovely book to read aloud and also for child to read to themselves. We originally got it from the library but are being forced to purchase as the aforementioned 20 month old would be desolate if he could no longer read it.

Delightful, 28 Nov 2006
My son loves this story. We read it together often and as well as the pictures being completely lovely (the bear is so adorable!) the word repetition and rhyme make this book that extra bit enjoyable especially as my Son can join in then saying the repeated line with me.
I recommend this book to anyone with young children (and adults who want a cute read!)
Snoring bear is a winner!, 10 May 2006
This is a charming book - a wonderfully written story with beautiful rhymes and an interactive snoring sound that older babies love to push and make the snoring sound! This was bought as a gift and our baby LOVES it, and we love reading out aloud, over and over and over again! Would love to see more by this author.
A modern classic, 18 Mar 2004
Never mind my three year old, I love this book. The rhythmic words coupled with the beautiful illustrations make it a pleasure to read, and my three year old loves it. It's the story of bear trying to sleep through the winter, while his friends seek shelter from the snow in his lair, you keep expecting him to wake up and eat them! I find that it's too stimulating for bed time but perfect for an afternoon cuddle session or when cheering up is needed.
A must for all parents, 13 May 2003
This book is a joy to read aloud. My two sons both enjoy the glorious illustrations and the way the text allows me to alter my voice - quiet, loud, scary, squeaky, sad. A truly wonderful book!
