Ladies...its get your own back time!, 04 Oct 2008
having read Getting Rid of Matthew in about 3 days, i was desperate to read the second novel of Jane Fallon, Got you Back, and i wasn't disappointed, despite the subtle similarities to the first novel. James, the husband who can't keep it in his pants, Stephanie, who plays the scorned wife ever so subtley, now having another to concentrate on, letting the mistress Katie take the lead in what was originally her revenge plan. Katie is originally perceived as a naive doormat, believing every word, or accurately, lie, that comes out of James's mouth, but once realising she has been taken for a ride, the nails really come out and the naivity falls away and the story begins to take you with it at momentum pace! i loved it! Couldn't put it down.
Good light read, 04 Oct 2008
I read getting rid of matthew and really enjoyed it. I would read it again. This book though is a little bit predictable but enjoyable. Definately worth a read but not as good as the first book!
Jane Fallon, Got You Back, 30 Sep 2008
Highly Recommended. Good Read. This is the first book I have read by Jane Fallon. I will definately be getting her other one, Getting Rid of Matthew. I found this book to be very good reading and felt that it could have been a true story at some point. Really easy reading and hard to put down and be patient enough to read through to the next step and not skipping pages to find out what happens next. Good story.
lightweight, 25 Sep 2008
Very disappointed with this book unfortunately. I found it to be lightweight and predictable with characters i didn't really care about or grow to like.. Having recently read 'The Post-birthday world' by lionel Shriver, which was so well written with proper 3 dimensional characters - this by comparison was like candy floss. It's typical of it's genre i guess, but considering the subject is basically about a cheating husband and the breakdown of a marriage, it felt so flippant and silly. It didn't make me laugh or feel any sadness for the characters. Dont bother - boring and contrived.
Terribly over hyped, 22 Sep 2008
A very disappointing read. The characters were completely unengaging and unconvincing; I couldn't really have cared less what happened to any of them. And it takes quite some skill to make an 8/9 year old child so unappealing. The dialogue was sparse and unconvincing, interspersed with what felt like interminable, dull narrative - much of which I ended up skim reading. Basically, if the author wasn't who she is, I doubt she'd even have got this published, let alone hyped so much! I bought this on a 3 for 2 (so basically free, right?) - and I still felt cheated.

Quickies: Bk. 1, 29 Aug 2008
A nice and quick read for those of a racier nature. There are several short stories to wet your appetite or anything else! Thoroughly enjoy this book.
ORGASMIC!, 22 Aug 2008
This book was my first venture into eroctic fiction, and for the price of this book I figured if I didnt like it - nothing was lost. However, I couldnt have been less disappointed! All the stories are based around a different fantasy - so everyone can have a favourite. I have to say mine is Doctors Orders. There were a couple that didnt "get me going" as it were, but thats not to say they wouldnt work for others.
The size of this book is great too - so slim, its very discreet and can easily be slipped into an overnight bag or suitcase - should the mood take you.
I was so impressed with this little gem of a book I have since bought volumes 2 & 3 and look forward to purchasing more. I would and have recommended it to friends.
Get Down On It, 22 Jun 2008
Great little book as are all the Black Lace series and this one doesn't disappoint. The stories are red hot and believable and will certainly get the pulse racing. Also well worth looking at is Quickies Bk. 2. And for the real connoisseur of the erotic, look at Suzie Van Aartman's '100 Percent Erotica' it oozes pure ecstasy.
Almost perfect!, 08 Mar 2008
This is the first time I've read one of the Black Lace Quickies series, but if this one is anything to go by, it won't be the last. The first in the series, this book contains six short stories all by different authors. There's the story of the young woman doing unspeakably naughty things at petrol stations; the seventeen year old boy that gets to live the ultimate teenage fantasy; a doctor/patient scenario; a horny air hostess; a brother/sister combo causing havoc on a passenger liner, and twins that swap places to have the adventure of their lives.
Out of the six stories, I was extremely impressed with five of them. I'm not going to point out which one I wasn't keen on as people's opinions vary, and I wouldn't say I disliked it, exactly, it just didn't get me fired up like the other ones did! There were incredibly kinky elements in here, for example; spanking, sex toys, incest, uniforms and domination... basically several of the main things that people fantasise about! So I think, all in all, this is a top notch book and there's something in here for everyone, providing you do like your stories that bit more kinky, which I do. Too vanilla and I get bored.
When you factor in a cracking price, which as always, is discounted on Amazon, and you've got yourself a winner here! So get this, and have yourself a night in with some sexy stories!
Quick and to the point!, 06 Dec 2007
Loved this quickie anthology! It's got everything a girl needs in order to...get fired up! The book itself isn't very long at all, but it's more than you need! Take a chance on it, along with Sex Scenes--Kim Corum, which is also just pure erotica. I recommend both.

Troubled bad boy...., 29 Jul 2008
Kieran is surely a bad boy! He is also Xanthia Neville's brother. She was in NEVER LIE TO A LADY. He thinks he is dying and keeps it a secret. Despite all his wickedness he cannot help but be drawn to Camille who is Comte de Valigny's daughter. Comte de Valigny wagers her in card game. Kieran wins her and from there starts a very interesting story/courtship. The H/H are well suited with each other. She finds his honesty refreshing for someone who has a reputation of being difficult and a rake. She is independent and has a back bone, she is not afraid of him. A few suprises some not quite believable but it's a book that will keep you engrossed as you would want to know if they will have their happy ending.

The other half of 'The Lost Duke of Wyndham', 01 Oct 2008
'The Lost Duke of Wyndham' was a disappointing read in some ways, with several scenes unexplained as they were to be the focus of this book. I looked forward to reading 'Mr Cavendish, I Presume' as I was rather interested in what would become of Thomas, the former Duke of Wyndham, and how he would end up with Amelia Willoughby. These questions were answered by this book but, sadly, there wasn't much else new or interesting in it. Many of the scenes are the same as in 'The Lost Duke of Wyndham', although from either Thomas's or Amelia's point of view (rather than Grace or Jack's), and the whole book felt rather repetitive. We experienced the same events a second time from a slightly different point of view with a few different insights into what was happening, but there wasn't much else to the book. Someone who hasn't read the previous book would be able to follow the events in this one easily enough as most scenes are explained so it doesn't seem to matter in which order they are read.
Thomas did come across as a rather more likeable character than the rather ineffectual chap of the previous book. Amelia was a good, strong character in this story, caged by her family's expectations of her and worried, at least initially, that she's marrying a man who barely even notices her. As the book moved forward and it appeared Thomas would no longer be the duke there were some interesting moments as he imagined his life without this enormous part of his identity but overall the story felt thin in places. Julia Quinn has a sparky, lively writing style which is good to read if often historically inaccurate. I was pleased with the way in which she portrayed Thomas's overarching sense of honour but the overall feeling from this book was that it contained too much repetition from the previous book and not enough new scenes to make it entirely worthwhile reading. I think the pair of books would have worked better merged into one overall story but it was a reasonable read for a rainy summer's afternoon.

Bit of a let down..., 02 Oct 2008
Having been a massive fan of Stephanie Laurens for a while I have been waiting for this book to arrive and was sadly more than a little dissapointed. After the cliffhanger intro in the previous book I had really been anticipating so much and what a let down...
I had hoped Christian and Leticia would have caught my imagination as the previous main characters in the Bastion Club novels had but they didn't at all. It was a great shame, but the back plot build up of Royce kept me reading and I will be getting the final book as I am sure many others will.
To be honest this book was a dissapointment and I had the feeling Stephanie Laurens was writing to a formula and not really investing herself in the book.Apparently the Vaux family are a bit snobby and prone to temper tantrums this point is hammered home over and over and over and over...
Out of all the Bastion Club novels this is the least interesting.
Snobbery and mystery, 14 Sep 2008
I thought this a far better book than others in the Bastion Club series and I liked the fact that several of the members linked up to find the bad guy. But what grated - a lot - was the sheer superiority of the heroine. If I read once that the Vaux family did this or thought like this or acted like that, I read it dozens of times. Far too many! Such snobbery runs throughout the book and spoiled it a bit for me especially since the hero seemed to accept and even like this trait. I note that Vaux also don't mind having sex fairly indiscreetly but then of course, only the lower orders, the staff, are aware of it so probably doesn't count! Having said that, Stephanie Laurens knows how to wind the reader around her story and succeeds in making it a page turner. Intriguing that the remaining mystery about the secret service chief, is going to be revealed in the last book in the series.
Hunt for a murderer, 22 Aug 2008
What starts off as a rather slow book developed into something that was interesting and enjoyable, if flawed in places. Lady Leticia Randall's husband is murdered and her brother Justin is the only suspect - he was at the house that evening and has fled the scene, leaving behind bloodstained clothing at his rooms. Yet Leticia knows Justin wouldn't have killed Randall and so she goes for help to one man she can trust, her former lover, Christian Allardyce, the 6th Marquess of Deane.
Christian and Leticia's history is complicated. Everyone thought they would marry but twelve years before Christian went off to serve King and country and whilst he was away Leticia married Randall. They've barely seen each other since but Christian immediately comes to Leticia's aid.
As they begin to search for clues to the murder they discover that Leticia really didn't know a great deal about her husband. As his private affairs are slowly unpicked Leticia and Christian find that he is a man of many secrets and that it will take more expertise than they have to get to the bottom of them. At the same time as the search for the truth of Randall's murderer, Christian has to try to convince Leticia to trust him and to come to see that her place is by his side. But if they get too close to the truth of the murderer, might they not be risking their own safety?
This was a surprisingly long book and it moved quite slowly. The interest built step by step as the layers in the plot were brought to light. After the first few chapters the book settled into a rather uneasy format where we followed Christian and Leticia's murder investigation during the day and then spectated on their bedsport at night, then on to the next day. As the book made progress we spent more time on the investigation and less on the romance and this was rather an improvement. As far as the romance side went, it was understated in some ways as it was a rekindling of love between people who had been incredibly close in their past. The characterisation of both Christian and Leticia was sparse at times - Leticia has a temper, we learn, and Christian is very controlled and calm, but this reader never felt like she really got to know them.
Although I did enjoy this book I was rather dubious about some of the behaviour of the main characters in that historical context. The lead couple spending pretty much every night in bed in each others' houses, with Lady Randall a widow of just a few days and still theoretically in deep mourning, felt rather too unlikely. Where were all the servants in a Marquess's house who would normally have noticed this kind of thing. It appeared necessary for Laurens' romance side of the plot but it all felt a bit too modern for the Regency period.
Despite this the rest of the book was a good read and I didn't guess the murderer until the end when they were revealed. Although part of a series this book worked well on its own and set up the reader for the next and last in the series, featuring Royce Dalziel.

Patience is rewarded!!!, 07 Oct 2008
As noted, I had to be particularly patient whilst waiting for book no. 3 to reach me. I kept nos. 1 and 2 handy to refresh my memory, and no. 3 is well worth the wait. As the previous reviewer notes, Ellie does sometimes leap before she looks, but with the very best of intentions. The "baddie" is a thoroughly nasty piece of work, but I found myself morbidly fascinated by all his (quite repulsive in parts)deeds of wickedness. However, I'm sure Rain and Ellie and assorted supporting players will overcome his horribleness. Got to go - few more chapters to read - I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone who loves fantasy, romance, ghoulishness, and acts of derring-do. FABULOUS!!!!!
Third in Tairen Soul series, 01 Oct 2008
C L Wilson's first two books in this series, 'Lord of the Fading Lands' and 'Lady of Light and Shadow' were an astonishing debut pair of novels that introduced us to the world of Rain Tairen Soul, a shapechanging powerful fey King and his truemate, apparently ordinary Ellysetta Baristani. But there was far more to Ellysetta than met the eye and the first two novels showed how her powers were gradually revealed and how she began to understand her position as truemate to Rain.
The third book, 'King of Sword and Sky', continues the story directly after the end of the previous book. After the shock of Elly's mother's death, she and Rain, their bodyguards and the remaining members of her family set off for the Fading Lands. However this isn't going to be happy ever after, there are many problems within the lands of the Fey as their lands become barren, their women no longer have children and the Tairen, the great cat-like flying beasts, also seem to be sickening. Can Elly's arrival change things, or will the dark forces that are buried deep inside her cause problems? Can Rain continue to be king or will his association with Elly mean that he is placed under suspicion? Can Elly come to terms with her powers and will she understand from where they spring?
I read this book almost a year after reading the previous two and it took me some time to get up to speed with the story, events, characters and - particularly - terminology. This would be a very difficult book to understand if you hadn't read the previous books and it makes few concessions to a reader with a rusty memory. The author piles on more and more terminology and phrases in Feyan, a foreign language that appears to be liberally sprinkled with apostrophes. I found the first half of the book particularly heavy going and it seemed to take a long time to get round to any action. Elly is still a rather difficult character, one who leaps before she looks and who tends to do her own thing, albeit with usually the best of motivations. There were some slightly disturbing scenes in which the evil High Mage played a part and there was more focus on sex than in the previous book.
Despite some of these criticisms this was still a very good book. C L Wilson's imagination is impressive, her list of characters interesting and varied and her worldbuilding congruent. Those who enjoyed the previous books will enjoy the continuation of the story - as long as they can remember the people, events and Feyan phrases from the previous two books!

A Red Hot Little Book, 19 Mar 2008
Great stories that will really get you going. There's something for everyone here and the stories are really alive and intimately described. Share it with your partner and live the fantasies together. And at such a low price you cant go wrong. Great little book, get Bk.1 and do it again, and if you're really up for great erotica check out the very excellent 100 Percent Erotica by Suzie Van Aartman. Wow.

Absolutly fantastic, 18 Aug 2008
This is one of the best books i have ever read. Its plot will have you stuck to the sofa making you unable to put it down until you've gotten to the end. I wasn't sure about it at first but after starting to read i couldn't stop. I now look very forward to reading the other books in the immortal series.
Good but not fantastic, 28 Jul 2008
I have read all of the Immortals After Dark series and each one was really well written with excellent character development, well handled action scenes and super charged eroticism. However, it is not surprising that after five (or six if you include the anthologised story) smashing stories the standard would drop eventually.
This book is not bad, it just isn't up to Kresley Cole's usual standard. The romance seems rushed, even forced and although there are plenty of fun moments - the action scenes are as good as ever - and there are the usual array of fascinating denizens of of the Lore, it is not enough to cover a somewhat floppy plotline.
That said, I am still glad I bought the book (I just don't re read it like I do the Wroth brother stories)
Great story, bit short in the ending but still great..., 28 Jul 2008
I loved this book. I was not convinced that I would enjoy this book considering the lack of Vampires or Lycans but Cade the rage demon really made me change my mind.
Cade is a rage demon who has spent 9 centuries being punished for losing his borthers crown, and Holly doesn't know it yet but she is a halfling (half human, half Valkerie). We know from the previous IAD books that Cade believes her to be his mate, but thinking she was fully human she was forbidden to him. Cade has seemed very superficial in previous IAD books but this latest story has done well to portray him as just in his reserved and stand-offish nature. I also love that Holly is not perfect. She utterly flawed and wonderfully quirky.
One of the main advantages to the world Cole has created, is that it's diverse, full of different species, laws, mythologies, characters and locations. But the added bonus is that she show's no partiality to any of them. The Immortals After Dark Series is building up to the "Ascension", a war that occurs every 500 years. It pits species against species, forces new alliances and does what it's supposed to - thins out the Lore population. Each book in Cole's IAD series is a prequel to the war yet to come and demonstrates | | |
