The BEST baby cook book, 05 Oct 2008
We have been using this book for about 7 months now, and find the information very helpful in how to feed our new arrival. How to introduce different types of food and when have made life so much easier for my wife and I. The recipes are very easy to follow and we would recommend this book to anyone who has just had a baby.
20/10.
Fantastic book with great, easy to follow recipes, 09 Sep 2008
I was given this book just before I started weaning my little boy, and followed the advice on how and when to start weaning. I found the advice helpful and straightforward, but without being too "preachy" like some of the other books. The recipes are tasty (baby has to fight Daddy for the lentil bake) and foolproof, even for someone who isn't the best cook in the world! Highly recommended.
Fantastic food for babies...................and adults!, 27 Apr 2008
If you're anything like me and want to make food for your little one with things like butternut Ssquash or beetroot but haven't got a clue what to do with them then this is definitely the book for you - in fact even if you don't this is a fab book!!
All the recipes i've made have been delicious, and as the recipes are for several portions it means you can freeze some saving you time later on. My only regret is that i didn't find this book sooner, this would be fantastic to start out weaning with. Needless to say that this cookbook will still be around long after my little one has grown up.
Fantastically scrumptious food thats healthy too - you can't go wrong.
Truuuly Yummy, 25 Mar 2008
I love this book...Not just for its cover but how everything you need to know about weaning and feeding you baby is easily explained.
I particularly liked the weaning section, which explains what to look for, when to start and the 3 stages of weaning.
Even if you don't do Organic it explains how to source the very best local ingredients. This means you are not only supporting your local shops and farms but also doing your bit for the planet by reducing food miles.
The portion sizes are realistic and the recipes are very original and easy to follow.
From Healthy shopping, Essential Nutrients, Feeding Stages 1-3, Great recipes, finger foods, this book covers it all.
What could be better than giving your child the best possible start in life?
As BBC Good Food suggested `a lifesaver'

Incorrect information, 09 Jun 2008
At first I thought this book was brilliant but actually it's got incorrect information in it which could be a danger to your child and I couldn't trust it!!
In the 4-7 month category it has recipes for oats and meat. If you're weaning your child before 6 months you should know that you cannot give meat to them and only gluten free oats, which it doesn't mention.
I wouldn't trust this book and will not be using it. Unfortunately I didn't get to look at it until it was too late to return.
Yum-my!!, 01 Feb 2008
After reading the reviews on the other books by Lizzie i thought i would buy this and give it a try. I've just tried one of the recipes and it was quick and easy to make, and smells (and tastes!) absolutely delicious - i think i may well be making some more for me!!
The only downside is that most of the recipes are just for one or two portions but having said this they are easy to double up. At the bottom of each recipe it details how they can be stored, what kind of portion-size is made and what vitamins and minerals the food is rich in. All in all i would say that this is a good buy and i look forward to seeing some more cookbooks from Lizzie Vann in the future!!
Not useful at all, 08 Jan 2008
This book was not very useful. This book offers a lot of recipes with meat or chicken. I was only able to take one recipe from this book. And most of all if you have a toddle and trying to feed him/her healthy foods, you will not be able to take on anything from here. Very disappointed.
I love this book - real recipes for real people, 31 Jan 2007
I originally borrowed this from our library! The recipes are not too time-consuming (I write as someone who does not own a food-processor). Unlike many other books, these recipes do not involve lots of weighing or fiddly quarter tsps (usually just a few spoons, whole veg or a measuring jug (floz or ml)) and are easy to multiply if you want a larger quantity. Fine veg chopping is fiddly but worth it. Also, the ingredients are easy to find in a standard store ie tinned butter beans, frozen sweetcorn. I did find other books required things I cannot get ie rice wine vinegar. I have used these recipes so much more than any other, I need to get my own copy! I taste everything before I give it to baby and we both like these. Strangely, on processed food my baby is very fussy, on home-made, she is no trouble.
Recipes that actually taste of something!, 20 Nov 2003
I love this book...the author is unafraid to make use of herbs and spices to actually make the meal taste of something. The recipes are easy to follow, and really easy to adapt if you're missing some of the ingredients. The book is fairly short but a great source of inspiration. Home-cooked, the recipes taste far better than their equivalents in jars.

I found various things in this book very interesting and useful. Mainly the recipes using the blender and raw ingredient combinations, the cakes, bars and little extras section (all vegan), the banana bread recipe is really easy and delicious. Also contains interesting info regarding juicing for babies which I hadn't considered until I read this book.

The Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook, 13 Jul 2002
This was an excellent book and the recipes were wonderful how ever i was very disappointed that it turned out to be vegan as you can get organic animal products. I was hoping for some helpful recipes useing animal products. the tittle should perhaps be 'The [Vegan] Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook. However it was still a very good book and i do use it frequently and if i had been ordering the book as a vegan or vegetarian i would have rated it a 5 star.
not what I expected but in some ways more..., 23 Jan 2001
I had hoped for recipes and more detailed organic diet information, but found the breadth of this book thought-provoking, making me consider the organic lifestyle of the family more widely... eg regarding clothing, toiletries etc. A valuable resource for parents who care about the planet, but especially about their baby. And not too preachy - I want sound advice without the guilt trip on disposable nappies, and this fits the bill. The section on branded baby food needs updating, as more manufacturers have jumped on the organic bandwagon since publication!

Oh dear, 17 Oct 2008
This book is terrible (why doesn't Amazon let you give something 0 stars?!). Knowing famous people and having been to expensive doctors/therapists does not qualify you to write a book about organic principles. I can't believe anyone agreed to publish this load of tripe. They clearly didn't spend much money on proofreading/editing, either, and the layout means the whole thing is even more wasteful than it would have been anyway. Avoid!
Save a tree, don't buy this book!, 17 May 2008
My favourite quote from the book "[Jo has] money, glamour, great connections...". Oh dear.
It starts off in a friendly way and I was drawn in, thinking actually this might be an approchable, easy to read guide to what I should and shouldn't be looking for in skin care and cosmetics. Unfortunately not.
It quickly deteriorated into her visiting someone who to be honest, really quite put me off the whole idea even if he inspired her. Then after a few more quotes about how wonderful she is it becomes a recepi book, and not a good one at that (does anyone need two pages dedicated top how to make a fresh fruit salad?).
After some publicity shots - and oh, did she mention she was the wife of a rolling stone and has some wonderful parties? - she spends the final third of her book promoting her products.
So, am I any more the wiser than I was after reading a Sunday suppliment about cosmetic chemicals? No. However I do now know that Jo Wood is the most wonderful, beautful and caring woman in the world ever*.
*Source - "Naturally" by Jo Wood.
The author is her own biggest fan!, 29 Mar 2007
This book is simple and an easy introduction to an organic lifestyle but there are far too many quotes about how wonderful the author is. If you need to say it...
The book lacks enough detail and new information for someone who is already leading an organic / natural lifestyle and is more suited to someone new to the idea. Also, there are too many pictures and quotes that are used to simply pad out the book which means that it isn't good value for money. I would not really recommend this book as it is little more than an extended advert for Jo's beauty range and for Jo herself!!!
Sorry I disagree, 16 Feb 2007
I felt that the layout (large print, double spacing (her recipe for a "wake up call" drink only had about 50 words on two pages!!))the whole book could have been condensed to about 100 pages instead of the 400!. I also felt that she did not give enough detail on the topics which she covered if she really wanted to get the point across about avoiding chemicals. And... did we really need the recipes... the constant quotes from her family and friends about how marvellous she is!!! - Sorry I feel at a cost of £12.99 there is not enough "meat on the bones" of this book and I feel a little bit short changed!
A great read!, 02 Feb 2007
This is a really lovely book and a gentle introduction to an organic way of life. Jo seems so approachable, and her story is one of passion and very heart felt, you feel part of the book. I found it very inspiring that there are choices out there for us all, and so many that we never get told or educated about. I really recommend this to any reader. I already live a very organic/natural life for my health and have bought this book for some of my friends in the hope to inspire them to realise it is not as difficult as we all think. Well done Jo Wood.

Good introduction to seasonal eating, 28 Oct 2008
There is much to like about Dobson's book. It's luscious photography; the author's uncomplicated writing style; the accessible recipes; it's contemporary 'feel'; it's emphasis on fresh, seasonal produce. It does what it says on the cover: it's easy. Personally, I'd like a little more complexity and originality - this just feels a tiny bit insubstantial as it is.

Home-cooked, the recipes taste far better than their equivalents in jars.
interesting ideas, 24 Jun 2008
I found various things in this book very interesting and useful. Mainly the recipes using the blender and raw ingredient combinations, the cakes, bars and little extras section (all vegan), the banana bread recipe is really easy and delicious. Also contains interesting info regarding juicing for babies which I hadn't considered until I read this book.

A great look at organic farming and produce, 09 Jul 2006
This is a brilliant book, looking at the farmers who grow and develop various organic produce. It is written in a month-to-a-chapter format, with each chapter highlighting a particular sector of the organic industry, IE bakery, dairy, meat etc. It has some excellent tips on growing your own produce and tells you what you should be doing in your garden at each point in the year. This was very interesting to read and helpful in increasing my knowledge of organic food and it's benefit in one's diet.
A very informative read ..., 21 Nov 2000
Lovely to see Rachel Rowlands in the book as she makes absolutely wonderful organic yogurts just down the road from us here in Wales. Anyone tried the newest one with organic Maple Syrup added?
Great overview of the roots of the organic movement, 14 Nov 2000
Pat Gallimore's book captures the real essence of the organic movement - people who have made a lifelong commitment to turning the world away from agrichemical destruction and rebuilding a sustainable environment. The insights into the lives, work and conscience of these people is achieved with the lightest touch, interesting'at home' interviews with people who mix business with pleasure and achieve their goals by slowly but surely changing the world through their work and through the shared attitudes of organic customers.

Home-cooked, the recipes taste far better than their equivalents in jars.
interesting ideas, 24 Jun 2008
I found various things in this book very interesting and useful. Mainly the recipes using the blender and raw ingredient combinations, the cakes, bars and little extras section (all vegan), the banana bread recipe is really easy and delicious. Also contains interesting info regarding juicing for babies which I hadn't considered until I read this book.

Organic Super Foods, 12 Jul 2002
This was an alright book, The recipes weren't very different to most normal cookbooks how ever if you are interested in learning more about organic foods, it has some excellent sections to explain what organic foods are and why you should use them. for this i would rate it 4 stars but for the book as a whole only 3.
Amazing London guidebook for vegetarians , 10 Jun 2006
Having recently moved to London and not knowing my way around, I found this book exceptionally useful. I've had some great meals at places recommended by it such as Rasa in Stoke Newington and the Peking Palace in the Archway and found the reviews a very good reflection on what the places are like right down to the decor. It's a good book to refer to whenever you are planning to go out especially in parts of London that you are not familiar with. As I try to eat organic, the restaurant and shop information was particularly handy. There's a lot of detail in this book and I'd thoroughly recommend it.
Superb Compilation of Wrong Information, 06 Apr 2006
So many things in this book are wrong - such as location & opening hours of shops. Some organic shops are randomly excluded from the listings as well. But still, I would recommend this book to organic Londoners because there is no alternative (not that I know of). Just keep a pen handy and be ready to criss-cross everything. After a while, you will have your original "organic London guide".
Best London Veggie & Vegan Guide!, 08 Aug 2005
This is the ultimate guide if you are coming to London or live here and have a Veggie or Vegan life style. Full of ideas, reliable restaurants and shop reviews. It also has area maps which are a great idea so you can find everything around you. It also covers upcoming areas which are normally left out (e.g. Stoke Newington). Plus the price is a bargain compare to the quality and valuable information that you'll get!
