Nicely illustrated - tastefull, 03 Dec 2007
Written with an easy read in mind. Written buy journalist - who went through it from novice to expert on the subject. Very interestingly written - not smutty very sensual - Love the writing very discriptive and passionate and soulful and real interesting mix. Should be a must have for any relationship and essential tool in any modern day relationship - teaching people how to really love one another . I'd recommend it to everyone!, 05 Jan 2007
My husband bought this book for me (for us, really!) as a Christmas present, and I must admit I was rather unsure about it at first. I knew very little about Tantric sex - other than that certain celebrities seemed to be into it.
What I like about this book is that it's written in an intelligent, thought provoking way. I felt I could idenitfy with the author, a journalist who originally started out with the aim of writing a cynical article on the topic, but who instead was so impressed by what she discovered that she felt compelled to write a book to recommend it to others.
Tantric sex is an ancient eastern art, there's nothing seedy or smutty about it, and nothing to feel embarrassed about either. The main principles behind Tantric Sex make perfect sense and there was nothing about it that made me feel uncomfortable.
As a result, sex with my husband has been totally transformed. Tantric sex is all about slowing down and taking your time - and this book teaches both men and women exactly how to do that. It's about understanding not only your partner, but also yourself on a deeper level. It's about making sex last, focusing deeply on all those wonderful feelings, relaxing and letting those feelings engulf you. It's incredible!
This is the only book on tantric sex I've read and there may well be other, better, ones available. But this one certainly worked for us. We're most definitely converts! What you really want to know about tantric sex, 23 Feb 2004
Summary: A very worthwhile read if you genuinely want to know more about Tantra. Until I discovered this book, I had spent some months trying to find out whether Tantra was an excuse for group sex (not interested) or a means to higher pleasures (very interested). Sampson wrote the book after experiencing Tantra herself and realising its potential. She concentrates on a description of the Tantric approach and how she felt about it and she provides many examples and views from others who have tasted this lifestyle. Don't buy the book if you are simply looking for nudy pictures - try a top shelf mag instead. I would suggest the book is especially beneficial for women who are nervous about trying Tantra - don't worry though chaps, there is plenty of material for us. For me, it was the first time I had seen the subject presented pragmatically, objectively and with an injection of humour that hinted at the potential that Tantra could have for all of us. It was sufficient to tempt me to try Tantra for the first time. Well done Val!
Concise and refreshing, 17 Jan 2004
The book strikes a good balance between sex and emotion. The first chapter deals with the more spiritual aspects of Tantra, then moves onto male/female sexual geography. The book then deals with women/men and Tantra then "Solo Tantra". It finishes off with more excercises both spiritual and physical(dealing with some common problems too), including sensual food and massage. This isn't a "relationship book" and their isn't any social phsychology involved, its based on the premise of sexual healing..and i have to say as a man...it was a great start.
Tantra opens new doors, 20 Aug 2002
I had heard about Tantra and was pretty sceptical, the whole idea seemed a bit weird. But I also felt there had to be more to a sex life that was basically dull. Val Sampson's brilliant book has helped rejuvenate my sex life in a very real way. Fortunately, Tantra is based on ancient oriental practise so it no weirder than yoga ... in fact I feel sorry for people who don't know about Tantra. That is sad and wasteful. What I liked most about this book is that it put me at ease with something that I frankly felt very uncomfortable about and I'm reaping the rewards. I am not in a relationship at the moment and it doesn't matter. I have a brilliant sex life and am ready to share a brilliant sex life when my next relationship happens. The book simply and warmly takes one through the basic steps, nothing judgemental, just a superb writing style and excellently laid out. My hope is that Tantra becomes widely practised so that so many more people go around with big smiles on their faces. This superb book I think is the best of the ones I looked at and by far the best as an introductory book.

Extremely useful book, 27 Jun 2007
This book describes in a very respectful manner how to get in touch with oneself and one's partner through sex. Its not about a lot of fancy and difficult techniques, but more about going deeper and discovering the inner sexual energy. This book is for people who long to go beyond just sex and into exploring energy in a more profound way.

Ready For Ascension? Read This Book!, 01 Apr 2003
Amorah Quan Yin has been gifted with very special spiritual teachings from the Pleiades. She shares that spiritual gift with us in this easy to understand book that could be subtitled, "A Step by Step Process to Ascension" The meditations contained in this volume will take the dedicated spiritual traveler to the 5th dimension and beyond. Anyone who is serious about building their light body and exploring the exciting realm of subtle energies will not be able to put this one down. When you awaken from your first lucid dream and can still hear the songs of the dolphins, you will know you are on a very special pathway! I am a devotee of Spiritual Ascension and Kundalini Energy for the past 17 years and found this book to be wonderfully informative. Amorah uses a playful sense of humour accompanied with uncommon practical knowledge to make using this book fun. Since it's channeled from the Pleiades, if Amazon would allow it, I would award 7 Stars!

THE book to read if you want to solve the mystery of love!, 16 Sep 2004
Barry Long's book is not only original and groundbreaking; but also highly important and timelessly resonating with truth. If you are one who is looking for a book full of detailed descriptions of sexual acts, positions, and feelings; then you will be dissapointed here, because the author goes in to specific length in explaining how the man and woman should avoid sexual and emotional excitation. It may seem drastic, but his words are not a change or an alternative remedy for an ailing love life. His words are a very eye opening guide into the reality of divine union between the man and the woman; the sacred attracting principle. If a man and a woman truly want to be happy in intimacy; then they must take the actual act of lovemaking as the core part of their intimacy generation. Barry Long explains that almost everybody on the planet has forgotten how to make true love; and this is because people make love with emotional expectation, with sexual excitation, with premeditated intent for an orgasm, and for physical release and projection of fantasy. And hence, by forgetting how to make true love, people, for thousands of years, have been making emotional love - a phantom love fed on the desires of self satisfaction; and thus a love that can never last because (like the ego) it can never be satisfied. Barry Long explains and emphasises what attitude the man and the woman should have in each situation of intimacy, and that there should be honesty first, as well as, importantly, a consistent intention between the two that they do not seek to make love for the sake of a physical release or an orgasmic 'end'. But to make love simply for the pleasure of making love with each other, and for being in the 'present' during every millisecond of the act, rather than projecting their fantasies and getting excited about orgasm and fetishizing the respective partners' body. Barry Long's book is excellent because it turns out to be the truth, and that true love and intimacy is something lasting and something ecstatic as opposed to the draining emotionality, expectance, and fantasy that is emtional\human love. His crucial point, is that if men and women want to be happy - they have to work on cooling their lower selves, and stop making love with excitment, projected fantasy, and premeditated orgasmic intent. He explains that as a result, the pleasure is astronomically higher, and that the bond between the man and the woman is strengthened. In order to strengthen the bond, he states that (seemingly contradictingly) one has to stop becoming emotionally attached, and to see the Divine behind one's wife or husband. When one becomes detached emotionally, then the spiritual bond strengthens in the knowledge that she or he is immortal, always exists in God's knowledge, and hence one is content in their love for them for the sake of their existence alone, rather than their wish to be emotionally involved with them to get something from them for the 'self'. All in all, a superb book, and a potential life-changer, even though I do not agree with everything he says, there is a massive amount to be gained from this book, and it is truly the only book one needs to read if you want to get married or are curious about the truth regarding sex and love.

Yogani's (the author of this book) writings are path-breaking in the field of YOGA. Tantra is often covered with lot of misconceptions and mostly misused for the wrong purposes. There are many books on tantra but few teach the actual purpose of the science of tantra -- divine unity.
This book lists out the excellent techniques of tantra, things that can be put to practical use and give the best results with minimal effort. The author also does a good job in explaining the science behind tantra, the union of bi-polar energies (shiva and shakti), that happen in the human body towards the road to enlightenment.
It is not only an interesting book to read, but something that is a must for all practitioners interested in the science of tantra. I hightly recommend buying it along with the book "Advanced Yoga Practices" by the same author.

Its not about a lot of fancy and difficult techniques, but more about going deeper and discovering the inner sexual energy. This book is for people who long to go beyond just sex and into exploring energy in a more profound way.

Spiritually uplifting, 23 Jan 2005
Quite simply a wonderful book. This text doesn't detail how to positions, there are plenty of "manuals" around for that. What it does do however is enable you to explore the fundamentals of Tantra and open to a more spiritual side where anything is litterally possible. The exercises and meditations are detailed and easy to follow, though if you are beginning it can seem strange initially to let yourself go. However, that soon passes and you open to a universe of wider possiilities. This book will certainly take you to new levels of awareness. I particularly found the quotes and mantras uplifting and useful. By applying these principles I was able to reach a state with my lover where we didnt know where one of us ended and the other began and both felt detached from our bodies adrift on a sea of ecstacy and love, all from the most simple and basic missionary position. It does take time, but belive me, you won't look back.

It needs saying that a shallow person would find this book too deep and hence miss the greater teachings on offer. Enjoy...

Too Shallow for Deep Love, 02 Dec 2002
A very attractive looking book, but a disappointingly thin read. I was interested in taking a loving relationship to a higher level and was greatly influenced by the reviews for this book. On opening the package I was initially delighted with my purchase. On the surface the book is glossy, colourful, beautifully illustrated and photographed. Undoubtedly, it would look good on any coffee table. However, as a study of Tantric Love, I found it rather lacking. Sure, the nine steps are there for you to follow but do you know why you're doing them? This could be down to my own rational, western approach to these things. I found the overall symbolism and ritualism hard to accept without the slightest attempt by the authors to explain the methods or give insight into their background . The steps appear to be presented as a kind of 'Simon Says' game - do this and if it doesn't happen do it again - it just seemed too esoteric. There is far too much symbolism used, which may have been acceptable if only it was explained a little. This would be a book for any couple who don't require too much thought or in depth knowledge of the subject (or if you want something for your table to impress your guests). If, like me, you're looking for a bit of bread with your gravy, I would recommend the Idiot's Guide to Tantric Sex. Awful title, but all the steps are there and it has much more depth to it.

Product Description
Tantra is an Eastern path of personal development based on a system of yoga in which the union of male and female principles is worshipped. Yet so often in the West, it has been misrepresented as an ultimately hedonistic, orgiastic practice involving complex knots of limbs. Cassandra Lorius's Tantric Sex should finally bring a waiting audience home to their own sensual bodies. The key to tantra is not sex but sensuality at its fullest. Tantra means celebrating the love between two people and keeping it nourished and alive in a variety of ways, which this book explores. The first half of the guide describes traditional Tantra as it has been practised by different groups in India over thousands of years and how it has been interpreted in the West. The second half of the book leads would-be practitioners with meditations and exercises in the art of sexuality. The fulcrum of the practice is to see your lover as truly divine. Sex thus becomes about worship and celebration, rather than notches in the bed post and comparative orgasms. Lorius herself found that through practising Tantra, she no longer experienced an empty post-coital feeling. Tantra is a journey that involves creating sacred space and a Tantric bed, tuning in to your lover, breathing, meditation and visualisation, eroticizing your body, touching, discovering male and female sacred spots and learning how to extend love-making. Lorius doesn't insist on an inflexible regime but encourages people to select and adapt practices to suit their situation. It's worth pointing out that the basic exercises can be used by single people and all can be used just as easily by heterosexual and same sex couples. Whether you just want to spice up your relationship or follow Tantra as a spiritual path, Tantric Sex introduces the essentials of this life-enhancing tradition, made so exotic in the West, yet so simple. --Fiona Buckland

An excellent manual on TANTRA, 13 Jul 2006
I hightly recommend buying it along with the book "Advanced Yoga Practices" by the same author.

very enlightening read, i really do think if every man read this and put the methods in to practice, there would be a lot more happy women out there, and a lot less divorces
Simple steps to awareness & love in a deepening Relationship, 10 Sep 2003
A truly inspired read. This book has beautiful exercises which as a married couple we found to be very profound. The authors love, belief and knowledge of Tantra shines though in this book.

Howev | | |
