Vernon is a Moron?, 18 Oct 2008
I am currently studying this title and although I agree largely with Vernon's views I find his attitude to nurses incredibly patronising (and given the list of things the man hates...."pomposity", etc) rather surprising. Although the man was a Doctor so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised at all.
As a male psychiatric nurse who has worked with some Consultant Psychiatrists who can make "interesting" decisions regarding treatment and prescribing, I have found that due to their poor skills in diagnosis and patronising communications I no longer have time to "plump pillows and take temperatures" as I am so busy explaining in a clear manner what has been said my patients.
This is why when Doctors who are coming up in the ranks of their profession rely on the nursing staff to "get them through", as we have more insight into patient care and diagnosis. This is due to the fact that we have a lot of contact with our patients and do not "drift" into a ward for 2 hours a week for "ward round".
A devastating critique, 03 May 2008
If you want to know the damage that the Moron has done to the economy of Britain, this is the book you should read. A page turner filled with factually backed accusations. The effect of Gordon Brown's actions on the finances of his country, its institutions and its Constitution are all examined and picked apart. There is little here for your comfort but much for your ammunition pouch. No wonder this book is being sold at a premium - £25 per copy as opposed to the publisher's price £9.95 each and £25 for 10! Only towards the end of the book does the momentum fall off: the writer tires of his subject, and with such a subject, this should surprise no one.
Shining a light into the darker recesses of Mr Clown's record, 28 Apr 2008
At last, an easily digestible, straightforward exposition of all that is Gordon Brown. Why, you will ask, has no-one in the media charted the cataclysmic damage caused by this dour control freak in a way that makes clear what has happened? You won't get it on the state sympathetic BBC, and you won't hear it talked about in the Westminster Village. None of the matters discussed can be genuinely rebutted because they're all true. Read it and weep.
Haven't read it but..., 19 Mar 2008
Picking up a leaflet in the FT this morning this book is £9.99 from the publisher. Do not pay £60 from the two current ditributers!!

I bought this for my Father who is over 80 years old and had never been on a computer before in his life. I gave his my old laptop as well and he uses it to do his Internet banking on, as he found that he could earn more interest this way. This is an ideal introductory guide for older people and indeed anyone who has had little or no Internet experience. This book will get you up to speed in no time at all.

Super Useful, 19 Nov 2008
I run three different websites and have found this All-In-One Desk Reference to be an invaluable aid as I upgrade my sites to XHTML and CSS; I've learned a lot along the way and feel much more in control of my sites than I ever have before. The book is written in a direct and simple manner; and the occasional use of humour is usually well-timed and a good memory aid to boot. This Reference comes with a CD full of useful software (including the great [and free] Aptana Studio, which I'd never heard of before) for Windows, Mac and Linux users. My only gripe is that there is more software for Windows users on the CD than for people who use other operating systems; however, it is easy to Google and find alternative free programs when necessary.
All in all, this is a hugely useful and concise book that I would recommend to anyone starting out in web development - it can take you from beginner level to advanced very quickly.
Worth every penny, 05 Nov 2008
This is indeed a perfect book for a beginner its not just informative but its a great light reading. To be a good teacher is not enough just to know the material one have to have teaching talant that Andy Harris unquestionably have.
If a question pops into your head during the reading you will probably have the answer in the next two sentences.
I highly recommend this book its clear, written with great sense of humor
and its truly all you need to start your way in the web developing world.
Great For Beginners, 28 Oct 2008
A must for anyone starting out in the web design business. A bit of HTML knowledge does help before starting the book as I think it may be a bit confusing for a complete novice. If you understand the basic concepts of this book will take you to the next level and beyond. It is well written with some humour (a godsend I think when reading technical books) as if the author is sitting next to you, and has plenty of tips, warnings and techical information. It is easy to follow with clear diagrams for each step - the CD is an added bonus and will probably be very useful to many beginners who want to follow each step. The book has taught me a vast amount that I couldn't get from internet sites, and the pricetag is very reasonable. Definately a worthwhile purchase!

Fantastic! Simple and easy to understand without being patronising!, 09 Jan 2008
This book is fabulous! It is laid out in an easy to follow format and explains everything you need to do and why it is like that! Nothing is assumed but it doesn't have that patronising tone either. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to do their own website..I'm making great progress with mine!!
fantastic for those who know nothing, 19 Jul 2007
I bought this book with no idea about htm of css and have got to rips with it really easily. It has good discriptions about more or less everthing you need to know. I am amazed at what I have achieved in a few hours then a few weeks. Highy recommened.
Excellent for beginners and hobbyists, for too pedestrian for experienced and professional designers, 09 May 2007
I went from having absolutely no knowledge of HTML to being able to design a commercial website, and also managing to get a job that required extensive HTML coding, largely due to this book. This book is ideally suited for the beginner, and goes into surprising depth about how to code with HTML, building up gently with lots of practical examples. Everything from font types to embedding floating graphics and videos is covered. There are also step-by-step instructions and exercises, with illustrations to help out, although they are in black and white. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the end of unit "tests" could be a little brief and not especially useful/challenging, and I also found the index of HTML code at the end rather poorly organised. Also, the fact that the illustrations were in black and white meant that when you did the exercises on coloured fonts and backgrounds, you could never be sure if you had gotten the result which the author planned for you to get. However, I liked much more of the book that I disliked, and would recommend it to all beginners. More advanced users may find it too pedestrian though.

Very impressed, 19 Mar 2008
The book is lighthearted and has helped already. There is more to Outlook than first glance, and I feel much more organised even at page 30 of the book. I recommend this to people with messy desks or who need to schedule reminders for tasks during the day. Well done Mr Dyszel, easy to read and follow. Thanks.

Thanks.

Excellent book, 16 Apr 2006
A must have for undergrad surgery, amazing clarity, helpfull for understanding basis of surgical diagnosis
Medical Student, 14 Apr 2006
This book is a great introduction to surgery for medical students, with a focus on examination and diagnosis. This book is lucidly written and gives detailed explanations (and pictures) of the signs and symptoms of each (general) surgical disease. There are no lists of investigations etc, but that's not what this book is about! This is a book about logical history taking and examination technique which are fundamental to good surgical practice. It's fine knowing the indications for a vagotomy but if you cannot obtain a good history and examine the patient properly then you are never going to get that far! I cannot recommend this book enough.

If you want to learn or further improve your email marketing ability and knowledge this is a must read. Everyone can take the information and apply it to see improve results.
It covers all the bases and is easy to read in chunks or pick up and dip in as you need.
Dave Chaffey has a well known name in digital marketing and its not hard to see why.
Even if you read the first edition (I did too) then its well worth picking up a copy of this updated edition.
The must-have handbook for all e-marketers, 13 Aug 2008
100% YES. Prof Dave Chaffey has done it again! Those of you who already know his work can testify to the fact that Dave is the Yoda of all e-marketing. 'Hmmm, make your e-marketing strong, this will'.
Whether you are new to this exciting world of e-mail marketing, or are an old hand - this book needs to be at your side 24 hrs a day. However, it's a brave person who sits down with a coffee and says: 'I'll just polish this off in one sitting' - you won't. It's too full. It's too rich. It gets you thinking about what you are doing and could or should be doing, so much so that you have to stop and come up for air every now and then.
Not that's it's not a good read - it's a brilliant read, but you know, as you read each detailed chapter, that you will be returning to this book time and time again. This book is complete, practical, detailed and full of checklists and guides to get you started straight away. Mine is dog-eared and still right here beside me as I type this review.
TIP: I used 3M's Index tabs (small plastic, write on-able, self-adhesive bookmarks) as I read this book. I inserted a new Index tab every time I hit an idea I wanted to pursue, and this made re-visiting that section quick and easy later on. I recommend you buy this book, and commit to reading it all in a week, indexing your favourite parts as you go.
If this book doesn't drive up your e-mail marketing responses rates - nothing else will. So far (and I have been reading and reviewing marketing books for over 11 years now) - this book is by far the best - this is the must-have handbook for all e-marketers. Just buy it.

Simple Knits Review, 16 Oct 2005
I am a beginner knitter and found this book quite useful as Erika didn't just use plain knitting wool, the patterns were fairly easy to follow and most were definately useful for around the home. However there weren't many different stitches used but I suppose being a beginner this helped? The only ideas that stood out to me were the rag rug made by knitting fabrics, not using a latch hook and the sisal wash mit. If you want to learn how to knit it explains this well but I would get a book from the library to explain how to make simple cushions/throws as this was all that was mainly covered in this book.
Does What it says on the Cover!, 15 Feb 2002
This is a great book for people who want to knit, but are unsure how. The intructions are fairly easy to follow, but it may take a little practice. The best thing about this book is that if you don't want your introduction to knitting to be either baby clothes or scarves, there are a range of throws, cushion covers and other bits and pieces that are easy and fun to knit and look great in your house. The photography and general layout of the book means that you won't be ashamed to leave it lying on the coffee table!
Contemporary pieces, satisfyingly touchy-feely!, 21 Dec 2000
Erkia Knight has just about every aesthetic covered in this wonderfully modern book that looks as great on a bookshelf or coffee table as it does under a mound of yarns. From her bamboo needles to her rich cottons, she makes you want to touch and feel your way to becoming a great knitter. Long gone are the cold metal needles and the itchy acrylics and polyesters you remember from childhood. Knitting seems to be enjoying a rebirth and why not with so many wonderful and varied yarns out there. All her patterns are easy to follow and gave me an immense amount of satisfaction from realising it was me that was doing the hard work! Once you get the hang of simple tasks it becomes quite easy to adapt her ideas to suit your own style. I seem to keep coming back to it every few weeks with a new idea to try out. My only worry is that I'm working my way through the book too fast! I hope she'll produce similar books to build on the knowledge she's already taught. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in knitting. Even if you've never knitted before but you enjoy arts and crafts, it really is a book that will hook you in and keep you there. Her ideas fit so well within a modern home whether you prefer earthy tones and minimalism or country cottage, that you are sure to find something you'll love. A book to be treasured.
A must have for Winter nights, 23 Oct 2000
This book really caught my attention and I didn't know why; at first. Once you read it though you are trapped in it and your head begins to burst with creative ideas. The knits that are in it are so simple that you cannot fail. But because of there simplicity they are timeless classics and look very stylish. The book is also unique in that in the whole book there is only one jumper, and even that is worth a shot (eventually). Certianly this book is one to fuel creativity or simply to snuggle up with on cold dark winter nights and dream about knitting cosy accessories.
simple, stylish, inspiring and fun, 29 Sep 2000
If you thought knitting was a boring pasttime reserved only for grandmothers and making too big jumpers and scarves, think again! This book is an inspiring collection of beautiful ideas for knitting great little numbers...for the home. And if you don't know how to knit - don't despair it gives a simple step by step guide on all you need to know to create some fantastic additions to your home. Not only that but it introduces you to some very interesting materials other than wool to use such as string, sisal (make your own body scrub mitt), cotton, denim and more. With these wonderful materials you can easily learn how to knock up some stylish cushions, throws, baskets and even a rug. The one clothing item in the book is well worth an attempt too - I can't wait to start it off and snuggle up in it during winter. Be brave - jump into the world of knitting with this book I did and I'm not disappointed (Oh and I'm only 30, trendy, live in London and not a grandmother!)

There is little here for your comfort but much for your ammuniti | | |
