The book contains some wrong references. For example, if the author refers to equation (1.4.1) or section (1.6), you cannot find it because it does not exist. If the equation exists, sometimes it is completely irrelevant. The situation is understandable since it is the first edition. Later edition may have correction to this problem.

However, considering the quality of the texts, I think this book excellently explains Bose-Einstein condensation and its consequences. Worth buying.

This is an excellent book. It is accessible to a general reader with an interest in the "machines" with which some of the most important breakthroughs of modern physics were made. Gallison uses some fascinating metaphors, for instance the idea of a pidgin or trading language allowing communication between researchers in different fields (ie those who count events and those who create images of them).

This book is a seminal work on what is undoubtably the most useful technique for the characterisation of crystal structures. It brings together monographs by top names in the field. The book is well written, easy reading and invaluable in daily life. It hard to pick out a favourite contribution. They all help so much in getting the most out of powder diffraction patterns.
