Customer Reviews
Easy to understand and quite comprehensive, 22 Jul 2008
After trying a few other spatial epidemiology texts, I have finally found one that I understand! Its laid out in a logical manner, and the explanations for different methods actually tell you what they do, and why you would want to use them...other books I have read tend to focus on the statistics and mathematical equations, without actually going into any details about what the methods are for.
This book is ideal for an epidemiologist wishing to use spatial analysis methodologies and goes through all the basic concepts as well as touching upon the more complex methods.

Comprehensive cover of simulated test scenarios., 16 Feb 2002
The book is a comprehensive way of assessing real life scenarios that you may not necessarily ever see for real. The book covered a range of internal dissorders appearing at random to mimic real life and for a vet having to deal with a variety of problems throughout the day. The questions covered not only the diagnosis, but the backround reasoning and laboratory analysis. all in all, a gem for any training vet and ideal study aid.

Shame it only covers Ectoparasites, 06 May 2002
This book provided accessable information on many aspects concerning veterinary parasitology. The information was clinically relevant, and the identification techniques in particular were clearly described and very practical. I found the book really helpful for the ectoparasite part of our parasitology course. But if you're on a budget I think you'd be better off with Urquhart's "Veterinary Parasitology" which covers all disiplines.

An educational decipherable text on viruses, 06 Nov 2002
Veterinary Virology is an easily deicpherable book for those of us that must suffer through microbiology on the way to veterinary degrees. This book explains things in simple language, without refuge in the jargon that is so easy for scientific texts to slip into. It is an excelent introduction into virology, (although if you want to learn about West Nile, go somewhere else.) Each chapter sticks to one group of viruses with an introductory section on how that class (genera/family?) replicates in the body, if they require intermediate hosts, etc. and how the virus does damage, and what type of damage occurs. It then continues on with more detail about specific viruses, paying more attention to those viruses which are endemic in the western world, or important for other reasons, such as trade barriers. (There is a nice section on FMD) All in all I highly recomend this book, as it makes understanding virology lectures much easier. Now if only there was as good a book for bacteria...
