Essential for Optometry students and DO's, 29 Jun 2008
This book is clear and easy to understand. This is a must for students in optometry and Dispensing Optometry. It goes into depth but is very easy to understand.
A good investment get hold of a copy.
student DOs handbook, 26 Apr 2007
This book will tell you everything you need as a student DO. The science is explained in depth and is designed specifically for dispensing students. The main problem with this text book is the language. It can be very confusing and you may need to take notes and jot it down in note form to revise from more easily. My lecturer is always quoting from it and then translating into simpler sentences for our notes.

An excellent diagramatic and comprehensive book on clinical ophthalmology. It provides the reader with a solid foundation of knowledge within a wide range of subjects - covering eyelids, sclera, cornea, retinal, orbital ..... to trauma. The list is extensive! The variety of coloured photographs and diagrams enhances the text providing the reader with a step-by-step guide through conditions and treatments. An excellent reference text for all clinical practitioners to have.
A one-stop source, 07 Jun 2003
This book is heavy, large and over two inches thick. It is a omprehensive text book for the ophthalmology student. Full of very clear, coloured pictures and easy to read text. THe new edition (out may 2003) is truely great and is well recommended. It is a book for book lovers who need such a text. Buying it would save buying several other books, the pictures are worth it on their own.
Excellent textbook, 18 Sep 2000
I bought this book as an undergraduate, and perhaps for that purpose it is a little over the top, but nonetheless it is an amazing textbook. It is written very clearly and there is a minimum of unnecessary nonsense. Coupled with excellent colour photographs and this book is a great addition to any medic's bookshelf.
The definitive text for ocular pathology., 04 Dec 1999
Excellent text book with plenty of high quality photographs. Essential for all optometrists and ophthalmologists. A section devoted to presenting symptoms and possible causes could be a useful addition to the next edition. There is no mention of Eales disease in the index, but as far I as can tell this is the only ommission.
A cornerstone for ophthalmology, 30 May 1999
4 years ago, I had a one faith. This book will be Bible to me. That's all.

How to pass an optics exam... in a book!, 28 Oct 2002
The entire Schaum's series is great for learning how to understand problems (in this case in optics) and shows you how to get through examples that your lecturer hasn't *quite* explained properly. The entire Scahum's series is great and will help you get through exams, assignments or if you want to learn how to apply all that theory to real-life situations. This series has helped me through several exams and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Good book but wordy, 06 Nov 2008
This is a good book, very wordy but detail is the key to success. I didn't find all the explainations the easiest to understand and this book is written with the perspective of how they teach optometry at Bradford. However if you are at another university in the UK the technique taught may not be the same as elliot. I found Esperji book clearer and easier to use in the lab. - I don't attend Aston so I think this is an impartial view. Have a good look at both books as they are very well written and decide which id the best for you don't take the lecturers word for it
if you only buy one book as an optometry student.., 10 Feb 2004
buy this one! Out of all the books I've bought, this has been by far the most useful. Great in a clinical setting and for revision purposes. As an optometry student at Bradford, this book was highly reccommended by our course tutor who happens to be the author, but even with an unbiased view this is one to buy. And its relatively cheap!
If you are studying optometry buy this book now, 04 Dec 1999
A very handy manual for refraction and clinical proceedures in optometry. As a final year optometry student I have carried this book with me for the past two years. It gives easy to understand instruction for all proceedures that you need to know. To find something to criticize this book for I would suggest that a few more pictures to demonstrate what some of the instruments mentioned look like, e.g.stereoacuity tests, would be useful. The best all round clinical text book for a student that has to carry books around campus. Clear, concise, lightweight.

Ideal for RCOphth exams, 04 Oct 2007
Couldn't agree less with the previous review - perhaps it was written by someone who doesn't want anyone else to benefit from this book?
This book is laid out well, logical and written in a way that is easy to learn and memorise. The content of the book reads almost exactly as the RCOphth exam syllabus. Every area is covered and it contains all the ray diagrams you need. You won't need any other book for the optics part of the exam. I would say however that it is a difficult topic and I'd advise reading the book well in advance of the exams and reading it several times.
a very bad introduction to optics, 06 Jun 2007
If there were minus strars, I would have given this book a minus 5....Although it does cover all the optics topics required for the royal college exams, the way it is written is ambiguous and the presentation is really poor.. Bhan is a good alternative..

millodots latest revised edition of the infamous dictionary lives up to the standard set by those that preceeded it. it does however have one obvious benefit..its even more up to date! its useful, easy to use and its pretty much everything that youre going to need whether you are a student or a practicing optom! i cant stress how useful it is to have on the shelf for those moments when you just cant remember an exact definition you need for an essay or when you need a little easily available info before a clinic viva! a great, must have reference guide!!
