From the back cover..., 23 Feb 2008
A black comedy with a murder mystery at its heart, set against the backdrop of 1950s London and Budapest.
When Larry Dunne is not arguing with his girlfriend, Pamela, he is either writing bad avant-garde poetry, working in a Bloomsbury bookshop or philosophising in a dive off the Strand. His life is filled with the envy of others and he leaves London to breathe the purer air of equality and universal fellowship in Hungary.
The reality of Budapest in the late I 950s is far from this ideal. The state runs on secrecy and paranoia. Larry longs to return to bohemian London but when a woman is murdered in a neighbouring apartment, he finds himself under suspicion with his passport confiscated. He is qui~kto realise that if the murderer is not caught quickly, he could find himself trapped in Budapest for a long time.

Adventures in the country, 25 Dec 2007
Cleo and Prue need jobs - Cleo for the holidays - Prue needs one permanently. Cleo become a secretary to Sylvester Tate and Prue goes to work for Magdalena Mountjoy at Mountjoy Castle. Eccentric characters, charmingly amoral beheviour and a cleverly interwoven plot makes for an enjoyable read. This is the first one in the Mountjoy series and several of the characters make an appearance in the later books. Read this one first if you want to read them in order.
Surprisingly cheeky novel that contradicts its ponsy cover, 02 Feb 1999
I picked this book up in an airport bookshop and at first wasn't encouraged by the "pretty girly" cover. It difinitely does the author a disservice and I would recommend a brighter or more modern style cover to attract a younger audience. However, my plane was running late and rather than putting it back on the shelf, I glanced inside and liked the style of writing. The characters are witty, frank and politely unconventional. You become involved in the little twists and turns of their lives and I got quite a few laughs at the scrapes some of the characters got themselves into. An interesting fictional look into the world of classical musicians.
