Be Careful What You Wish for, 27 Feb 2008
I experimented with this book because the theme resonated with me. Though i did pick it up with a lot of gusto i must say i was not overly enthusiastic about resuming my reading once i had put it down. The first 50 pages or so are slow, it feels as though the author is trying hard to make things sound funny. However after the first 50-70 pages the book picks up pace and naturally makes you want to know what happens next. I specially like the end where fantasy meets reality (Don't want to spoil the fun!). All in all a light read ideal for quiet night-in or to kill time.
EXCELLENT READ!, 31 Jan 2008
Great book, very entertaining, just wanted to keep reading. Lovely plot, lovely style of writing, and funny. Very much like the Shopoholic books, if you like them you will love this.
Becareful what you wish for - Alexandra Potter, 01 Jan 2008
I bought me and mr darcy and fell in love with Alexandra Potter's writing. Alexandra has the writing power to take you away from everything and that was she did again in this book. I loved the character Heather and her house mate Gabe the "wanna be stand up comic". Great book, would recommend it to anyone!
Sensitive, touching and very romantic, 31 Dec 2007
I had never read an Alexandra Potter book before this one and to be honest I only bought it because it had been recommended to me due to my love of other chick-lit such as Sophie Kinsella and Belinda Jones.
That said, I got into the book straight away, its the story of Heather Hamilton who buys some lucky heather one rainy day in London just to escape a gypsy woman and then finds that everything she starts to wish for, such as getting a seat on the tube, finding the perfect man and the sun always shining all come true. Is it just coincidence or does the lucky heather really work? Or does having everything you wish for make you truly happy.
Heather has to work all this out for herself in the end and this book does not disappoint. It has great characters that you really care about, it's extremely funny, it's sad and touching in places and it flows along so well that once you start it, you just want to carry on reading it until it's finished. Except when you get to the end, you don't actually want the book to end.
A great, great book, I definitely want to read more of Alexandra's novels and hope they can live up to this one. A real find. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wishing For More, 15 Nov 2007
I've been a fan of Alexandra Potter's writing for quite some time now and this book didn't dissapoint.
We've all sat there and wished for things without really thinking it through, i know i do it every day. Which is exactly the situation the lead character finds herself in after buying some lucky heather from a gypsy. She carries on her normal life wishing for things left, right and centre, slowly beginning to realise that they come true. Is it just luck, the norm, or the lucky heather. Well dear reader, to find that out you'll have to purchase the book. Or you could just wish for a copy ;-)

Mr Darcy pulled down a peg, 05 Sep 2008
I had my hesitations about the novel when I first picked it up. The language put me off at first, and I wasn't sure I really liked being pulled in and out of Mr Darcy's world. But by the time I finished the novel I was amazed at how cleverly the writer put things together. I can't help feeling that she was true to Austen in a very interesting way -- she gave us an Eliza that sees Darcy for who he is and doesnt get taken in by the image. Much as I love Pride and Prejudice, I love this spoof on it. Lovely holiday reading, full of humour and plain good fun.
A nice, quick holiday read. , 25 Aug 2008
The story by Alexandra Potter isn't exactly taxing, and is slightly bizarre, particularly the ending, which did make me cringe slightly, having previously read Pride and Prejudice. But overall, this book is a nice, fairly short read, that would keep you occupied for a few days.
In my opinion, it is not worth the RRP so buying off Amazon or borrowing off a friend is probably a better idea than a bookshop.
One of my favourite books!, 25 Jun 2008
I absolutley LOVED it! Alexandra Potter is now one of my favourite authors. Don't let the bad reviews fool you. Buy it and you will love it!
nice reading, 19 May 2008
I really had like the story even tought I wasn't so enjoying the beginning!
The story is nice and I couldn't manage to stop after reading the 7th chapter. I learned about Mr Darcy (have never know the jane austeen story!). The story is well written, enjoy a journey in the UK with the jane austen's fans...
Easy, quick lighthearted read, 28 Mar 2008
Was pleasantly surprised. I found it an easy, quick and lighthearted read. Perfect for reading while cycling in the gym! The storyline got me interested in original Pride and Prejudice story and Bath's interesting history. I have now watched and thoroughly enjoyed the film, and I am planning a visit to Bath. I did find that the word "cool" popping up all over the book quite tedious though.
