Another E.V.Thompson super story, 22 Nov 2007
This book, like the Retallick and Jago series is centered on Cornwall and Cornish folk in the difficult days of the 1800's. The only problem I had with this was forcing myself to put it down.

The Retallic series-a superb read, 21 Oct 2007
Having been an avid reader since the age of 5yrs.( now almost 75) I can say that I have rarely been so engrossed in a series of books (the Retallick series)My knowledge of the Boer war has greatly improved. These are stories which in my opinion are as suitable for men as women (as a male I can say this from first hand experience.) The books in the series follow each other smoothly with just enough information incorporated about the proceeding book to enable the reader who has not read the previous book to follow the story but not, as with some authors boring the readers of the previous books. The only problem was putting them down!

Of all EVT's books this one goes straight to your heart. You love Lottie from the word go. Her trials and tribulations are yours infact you lose yourself in her. Reading this book was a complete Joy. I have all EVT's books in Hardback First Editions exept this one and yet this paperback is the most used one.

Excellent historical romantic novel, 02 Jan 2000
I found this novel exciting, interesting and totally compelling. The storyline moved with a graceful speed, only faltering with the in depth historical information. However I found this novel one of the best I have ever read, incorporating political intrigue, unrequited love, spying, revolutionists and I also found an interest in tin mining that I never knew I had. After reading this novel I have gone on to read all of E V Thompson's other novels and I have not been disappointed!

Moontide is as varied as the waves, 11 Dec 2003
This is a spectacular novel racing from the Battle of Waterloo to a sleeping beauty of a Cornish parish. I can't help but think that Porthluney is St Michael Caerhays in Cornwall and the manor is Caerhays castle under the ownership of former Lord of the Manor Bettesworth-Trevanion. Moontide describes the ecumenical prejudices in Cornwall in the 1800s and yet takes us on a journey of reconcilliation through the Channel Islands to France. After injustices and mistaken identity, good triumphs over evil despite all. Our young naval chaplain then vicar Toby with his rescued dog and obstreperous donkey have run ins with the Revenue Men, witness the savagery of wrecking and pack off people to the New World. This whole story is compelling and un-put-downable. Anyone who is interested in Cornwall, social history, naval history or just a very good tale should not miss this novel with its superbly vivid scene and character settings. One of EVT's best.
