Never having read anything by Eva Figes before, I am so struck by the imagery she is able to create with her writing. Teaching young children I am fascinated by fairy tales, and spend a lot of time telling them in a censored sort of way, so to read this book and really see what meanings could lie behind the stories is a real eye-opener. Both unsettling and uplifting I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind having their cosy little world challenged, and also think it would be a superb book for young adults who are just learning of the Holocaust to read.
