I have just received my cards and I am so pleased! Beautiful designs, stunning to say the least. Easy to understand guidebook and the meanings are explained thoroughly.
This is not my first doreen Virtue pack as I also have healing with the Fairies, however this wonderfully stunning pack is a more then welcome addition to my readings material. 5 stars from me!

These are my first Doreen Virtue purchase. I needed something to help me SLOW the pace of life and take stock of things. I got these cards a week ago and I have found them to be really precise and accurate. The first time I used them I asked for help with a situation and the card I chose was totally relevant and I kept it with me all day and I followed the advice. I think they have helped me and now I use them before I go to work and It is something I look forward to. I like to look at the illustrations which are are beautiful. Plus the cards are a lovely size. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

A gorgeous deck (almost prestigious looking)! This is my second Doreen's deck and is absolutely beautiful. Most of the time, I use it in conjunction with her Messages from the angels card. Together, they provide me with a fuller picture and enhance the accuracy. When use alone, this deck is also highly accurate. I always get very to-the-point messages or daily guidance. The booklet that comes with the deck is very detailed and helpful as well.

On the whole, it is a very versatile deck that can provide clear, soothing and helpful guidance, perfect for anyone who needs some reassurance, encouragements or simply a pat on the shoulder.

Beautiful cards that connect on a spiritual level offering knowledge and comfort.

They have provoded me with answers and reassurance to recent traumatic circumstances and although I believe in Angels, I was sceptical about Angel cards ---

firstly thank you to amazon for the very prompt delivery of my first order. i was well impressed with service and price! the archangel cards i have received are once again a pleasure to own. just the enchanting artwork on the oracle card box alone invites you to open the box with excitement.

these cards are more motivating and inspiring as opposed to the angel or fairy cards which work with relationship and other personal issues. i would suggest using these cards as additional information when using angel, fairy or magical mermaids and dolphin cards. or alone use them for inspiration.

they are a lovely addition to any collection of the doreen virtue cards.

I have found these particularly useful for constructing the 5th row of my World Record attempt at the largest House of Cards in the world. The energy pouring from them no doubt helped anchor the layers above and below with the power of their love, prayer and slightly thicker board.

I've already ordered the Magical Unicorns Oracle Cards AND the Magical Mermaids and Dolphin Oracle Cards since the magical energy inherent in them will aid the trickier stages as I reach the apex. A good buy all in all and thoroughly recommended to anyone looking to harness the power of the divine as they strive to achieve immortality in the pages of the venerable Guinness book.

I had read - and dismissed - Antigone in high school. Like many of the books I dismissed in my adolescence, it's actually heartbreakingly brilliant. Fagles' translation is beautiful and moving, contemporizing the language without destroying meaning or stretching plausibility to cater for short-attention spans. I found myself circling passages and it's not even part of my University reading list this semester. Reading something like these plays really reminds you how absolutely desolate Hollywood and Theatreland have become these days - almost nothing compares with Sophocles, and even the best of modern literature owes so much to the ancient masters that reading them inevitably changes the way you read everything else. Who can blame Freud for feeling so inspired?
As for Bernard Knox's introductions, I found they ellucidated the subtle nuances of the plays and enriched my reading experience, all while being riveting reads on their own. Perhaps even worth the price of the book alone, particularly the one introducing Oedipus the King.

Antigone has been reinterpreted repeatedly: as a feminist play, as a play about political oppression, as a play about a dysfunctional family. Antigone may be a difficult character to sympathise with or understand, but the poetry of the drama excels even that of Oedipus (especially the eerie, haunting 'hymn to Dionysus').

More human than Aeschylus, more stately than Euripides, the greatest tragedy is that only seven of Sophocles plays have come donw to us, and these 2 are the best.

These dramas of individuals facing the often irreversible consequences of their uncompromising actions will always be relevant. This touching, powerful translation in contemporary English is the most accessible to new readers.

Like one of the other reviewers of this book, I only read it because I was studying it at school. However, like them, I came to appreciate the book on its own merits. The suspense in Oedipus Rex is almost unbearable, and it stands out as one of the best plays of all time in my view. The play has a ending to compare with some of the goriest tv murders, as well as having a rather distasteful theme of unwitting incest.

Unfortuantely, the downside to this book is that it contains "Antigone" and "Oedipus at Colonus". While "...Colonus" is moderately entertaining, Antigone is an annoying character due to her extreme stubborness. However, this is saved by the sheer quality of Sophocles' writing. This translation also has notes at the end, to help new readers to undrstand some of the more obscure references.

These three plays are the best you'll come across. The finest tragedies ever written.They are also quite controversial for todays standards with some complex inbreeding.A must for anyone of any age. If you know nothing about the Ancient world you'll see it for the controversy, and if you know all about the ancient world you'll know that it surpasses any other work by any other author

I run a pre school for 3 & 4 year old children and was looking for a nativity play. This book was fabulous. All of the song tunes are nursery rhymes so the children are familiar with them already and they learn't them very quicly. It was really easy to follow, had photocopiable pages for you to send home for the kids and music for my piano player! The children really enjoyed doing it and the parents were amazed. A great buy I would thoroughly recommend.

These dramas of individuals facing the often irreversible consequences of their uncompromising actions will always be relevant. This touching, powerful translation in contemporary English is the most accessible to new readers.

Like one of the other reviewers of this book, I only read it because I was studying it at school. However, like them, I came to appreciate the book on its own merits. The suspense in Oedipus Rex is almost unbearable, and it stands out as one of the best plays of all time in my view. The play has a ending to compare with some of the goriest tv murders, as well as having a rather distasteful theme of unwitting incest.

Unfortuantely, the downside to this book is that it contains "Antigone" and "Oedipus at Colonus". While "...Colonus" is moderately entertaining, Antigone is an annoying character due to her extreme stubborness. However, this is saved by the sheer quality of Sophocles' writing. This translation also has notes at the end, to help new readers to undrstand some of the more obscure references.

I run a pre school for 3 & 4 year old children and was looking for a nativity play. This book was fabulous. All of the song tunes are nursery rhymes so the children are familiar with them already and they learn't them very quicly. It was really easy to follow, had photocopiable pages for you to send home for the kids and music for my piano player! The children really enjoyed doing it and the parents were amazed. A great buy I would thoroughly recommend.

I found this very entertaining to read. It is written aesthetically, (and this is maintained in the translation, not that I have read the original German), and is an engrossing story. I'm sure that there are many allusions and philosophical parables to be found in close study of the text, but I just found it an enjoyable read without having to take it too seriously. Mephistopheles is a brilliant comic character, but there are also subtle insights into the depth of his evil as well. The minimalism of the characters other than Mephistopheles and Faust is stylish and makes the story all the more memorable in retrospect. Reading this makes me feel that all stories should be written in verse, if only the authors were skillful enough. Even though I have only studied Shakespeare at the usual school level, I can see what might be Shakespearian influences or things that remind me of Shakespeare; perhaps this was in places done on purpose by Goethe as a tribute to Shakespeare.
As far as I can tell, the translator has done a miraculous job. One of my favourite lines in the play is:
"But write it all down, concentrating
As if it were the Holy Ghost dictating!"

Certainly, the sixty years Goethe spent writing volumes I & II paid off. Unlike Shakespeare, there is a moral lesson which sums the human experience regardless of one's actual circumstances. By illusion and yearning are we enmeshed in lifes toils, only to find the simplicity of innocence and life's early beauty, before we possessed, was the greatest of our soul. Though greatly influenced by Shakespeare, Goethe takes the life's tale to another level which is wrapped in other dimensions of past, present, and future, in addition to heavens and hells. The Faustian choice is one made everyday and is weaved into every moment, until death and afterwards.
An understanding of Indian philosophy (i.e., Buddhism, Hinduism) and the Sanskrit texts brings a deeper depth of understanding, with their complexity and breadth giving greater meaning to a highly mystical and even transcendental text.

These are my first Doreen Virtue purchase. I needed something to help me SLOW the pace of life and take stock of things. I got these cards a week ago and I have found them to be really precise and accurate. The first time I used them I asked for help with a situation and the card I chose was totally relevant and I kept it with me all day and I followed the advice. I think they have helped me and now I use them before I go to work and It is something I look forward to. I like to look at the illustrations which are are beautiful. Plus the cards are a lovely size. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

A gorgeous deck (almost prestigious looking)! This is my second Doreen's deck and is absolutely beautiful. Most of the time, I use it in conjunction with her Messages from the angels card. Together, they provide me with a fuller picture and enhance the accuracy. When use alone, this deck is also highly accurate. I always get very to-the-point messages or daily guidance. The booklet that comes with the deck is very detailed and helpful as well.

On the whole, it is a very versatile deck that can provide clear, soothing and helpful guidance, perfect for anyone who needs some reassurance, encouragements or simply a pat on the shoulder.

these cards are more motivating and inspiring as opposed to the angel or fairy cards which work with relationship and other personal issues. i would suggest using these cards as additional information when using angel, fairy or magical mermaids and dolphin cards. or alone use them for inspiration.

I had read - and dismissed - Antigone in high school. Like many of the books I dismissed in my adolescence, it's actually heartbreakingly brilliant. Fagles' translation is beautiful and moving, contemporizing the language without destroying meaning or stretching plausibility to cater for short-attention spans. I found myself circling passages and it's not even part of my University reading list this semester. Reading something like these plays really reminds you how absolutely desolate Hollywood and Theatreland have become these days - almost nothing compares with Sophocles, and even the best of modern literature owes so much to the ancient masters that reading them inevitably changes the way you read everything else. Who can blame Freud for feeling so inspired?
As for Bernard Knox's introductions, I found they ellucidated the subtle nuances of the plays and enriched my reading experience, all while being riveting reads on their own. Perhaps even worth the price of the book alone, particularly the one introducing Oedipus the King.

when i first saw the box for 'magical mermaids and dolphins' i thought they would be for children. on opening the box i was surprised by the stunning gold edged cards with lovely messages inside, which can be used on their own or as extra guidance with the other doreen virtue oracle cards. as with all other doreen virtue cards and indeed books, there is always a message with a 'feel good factor' but also one which does make you think that little bit more about certain situations in your life. doreen virtue cards are a lovely companion to have and one which i will definately keep for my daughter.

These were the first Orcale cards i bought that werent Tarot cards and they proved very handly. Alot easier to translate and interpret then the normal Rider-Wait symbolism these provide quick, satisfying answers to your daily queries. The images are divine (pun not intended, but probably is) and its quite easy to spend time pouring over them. A perfect gift for anyone slightly feminine or interested in mermaids or what the future may bring.

These cards are very beautiful, the artwork is worth buying these cards for alone, as with all Doreen Virtue Oracle cards. These cards were the first ones I used, apart from Ryder Waite tarot and have found them to be very deep and very telling. Perhaps a good place to start for someone who has tried tarot and fancies something a bit different.

As far as I can tell, the translator has done a miraculous job. One of my favourite lines in the play is:

when i first saw the box for 'magical mermaids and dolphins' i thought they would be for children. on opening the box i was surprised by the stunning gold edged cards with lovely messages inside, which can be used on their own or as extra guidance with the other doreen virtue oracle cards. as with all other doreen virtue cards and indeed books, there is always a message with a 'feel good factor' but also one which does make you think that little bit more about certain situations in your life. doreen virtue cards are a lovely companion to have and one which i will definately keep for my daughter.

These were the first Orcale cards i bought that werent Tarot cards and they proved very handly. Alot easier to translate and interpret then the normal Rider-Wait symbolism these provide quick, satisfying answers to your daily queries. The images are divine (pun not intended, but probably is) and its quite easy to spend time pouring over them. A perfect gift for anyone slightly feminine or interested in mermaids or what the future may bring.

These cards are very beautiful, the artwork is worth buying these cards for alone, as with all Doreen Virtue Oracle cards. These cards were the first ones I used, apart from Ryder Waite tarot and have found them to be very deep and very telling. Perhaps a good place to start for someone who has tried tarot and fancies something a bit different.

I was hoping Doreen Virtue would do some Ascended Master oracle cards so I bought these as soon as they were released and haven't stopped using them since! I use quite a few decks but these are the ones I keep coming back to time and time again. The artwork is stunning with high vibration colours, these cards always have a good vibe about them. They contain a few Goddesses and female ascended masters so they cover a few areas.

They are perfect for when you need quick guidance by pulling a card, I use these like this allot but I find them even better for daily guidance. I choose a card for the day and leave it out, they are more accurate than many daily oracle cards including Doreen's own deck in my opinion.

the ascended masters box is very eye catching in purples and golds. on receipt of them i was looking forward to opening them. i have many doreen virtue cards and i really love using them.

on opening the cards i was a little disappointed, mainly because the cards are so drab in colour. dont get me wrong, the artwork on the cards are good but the cards are mainly browns, purples, greens and blues and i certainly dont feel uplifted at all when i use these cards. the cards are gold edged, which makes them slightly more appealing, but for some reason i just dont connect with them.

i use these cards if i am doing a reading and i want some additional guidance but i would recommend that if any one is purchasing the doreen virtue cards for the first time, to go for messages from your angels, healing with the fairies or magical mermaids and dolphins. they are alot more appealing.

The answers can be completely irrelevant to your question, in which case someone would say "well its because its answering a completely different and deeper need you have" - so basically that means the question you have asked is considered to be of no importance to the "ascended masters" despite the fact it is very important to you. The answers of course are very random. Its as random as throwing dice...chances are you wont get the number you want at the casino crap table or anywhere else. I wouldnt recommend these types of cards to people who have serious issues in their lives and are needing serious answers or even people who just have issues really. If you are a collector however, they are a nice addition to any set. I have other sets of cards by Doreen Virtue, but these just dont hit the mark as far as accuracy goes...bit difficult to sit and think....oh well, if the ascended masters dont think my question is important then it mustn't be...because everyones questions are important to them and deserve answers in some way. OK.....waiting for the slating.....oh..that rhymes!

These cards are stunningly beautiful and have a gold edging around the card which makes them even more special. I already previously own 3 packs of Doreen Virtue cards but these are by far my favourite. When i first opened the pack and absorbed the energy of the cards slowly and intentionally, i felt a bond forming with some of the characters. Some of the faces on the cards even look like some of my friends.

These cards are very powerful to me and whenever i take the lid of the box i can feel a very strong energy about the cards which feels like the masters have jumped out of the box and are then standing in the room that i am in ready to download valuable information to me.

Obviously different cards touch different people so always go with your instincts.

On receiving these card you are imediately hit by the stunning art work and beautiful energy these cards have .. no more than I have come to expect really from any of the Doreen Virtue vast list of items that she produces .. These are easily used and understood .. accurate and wonderful to read with .. the messages that are given are apt and guiding .. These are my first Doreen Virtue purchase. I needed something to help me SLOW the pace of life and take stock of things. I got these cards a week ago and I have found them to be really precise and accurate. The first time I used them I asked for help with a situation and the card I chose was totally relevant and I kept it with me all day and I followed the advice. I think they have helped me and now I use them before I go to work and It is something I look forward to. I like to look at the illustrations which are are beautiful. Plus the cards are a lovely size. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

A gorgeous deck (almost prestigious looking)! This is my second Doreen's deck and is absolutely beautiful. Most of the time, I use it in conjunction with her Messages from the angels card. Together, they provide me with a fuller picture and enhance the accuracy. When use alone, this deck is also highly accurate. I always get very to-the-point messages or daily guidance. The booklet that comes with the deck is very detailed and helpful as well.

firstly thank you to amazon for the very prompt delivery of my first order. i was well impressed with service and price! the archangel cards i have received are once again a pleasure to own. just the enchanting artwork on the oracle card box alone invites you to open the box with excitement.

these cards are more motivating and inspiring as opposed to the angel or fairy cards which work with relationship and other personal issues. i would suggest using these cards as additional information when using angel, fairy or magical mermaids and dolphin cards. or alone use them for inspiration.

I had read - and dismissed - Antigone in high school. Like many of the books I dismissed in my adolescence, it's actually heartbreakingly brilliant. Fagles' translation is beautiful and moving, contemporizing the language without destroying meaning or stretching plausibility to cater for short-attention spans. I found myself circling passages and it's not even part of my University reading list this semester. Reading something like these plays really reminds you how absolutely desolate Hollywood and Theatreland have become these days - almost nothing compares with Sophocles, and even the best of modern literature owes so much to the ancient masters that reading them inevitably changes the way you read everything else. Who can blame Freud for feeling so inspired?
As for Bernard Knox's introductions, I found they ellucidated the subtle nuances of the plays and enriched my reading experience, all while being riveting reads on their own. Perhaps even worth the price of the book alone, particularly the one introducing Oedipus the King.

Academics argue still over the 'meaning' of Oedipus: is he guilty? is he simply blind? what's the truth of the relationship between him and his mother Jocasta? If we could ever answer all these questions the play would lose its power and drop out of the canon. Read it in this excellent translation and make up your own mind.

Antigone has been reinterpreted repeatedly: as a feminist play, as a play about political oppression, as a play about a dysfunctional family. Antigone may be a difficult character to sympathise with or understand, but the poetry of the drama excels even that of Oedipus (especially the eerie, haunting 'hymn to Dionysus').

More human than Aeschylus, more stately than Euripides, the greatest tragedy is that only seven of Sophocles plays have come donw to us, and these 2 are the best.

Many readers would dismiss classical literature as staid and impenetrable. They couldn't be more wrong and this translation of the Theban Plays proves it. The powerful story of the destruction of a family is told with incredible pace and verve: Oedipus lacks awareness but longs for it and faces the blistering consequences of his straight questions; he and his daughter Antigone are reduced to homelessness and poverty; Antigone, alone eventually, is criminalized for her refusal to compromise to state law. These dramas of individuals facing the often irreversible consequences of their uncompromising actions will always be relevant. This touching, powerful translation in contemporary English is the most accessible to new readers.

Like one of the other reviewers of this book, I only read it because I was studying it at school. However, like them, I came to appreciate the book on its own merits. The suspense in Oedipus Rex is almost unbearable, and it stands out as one of the best plays of all time in my view. The play has a ending to compare with some of the goriest tv murders, as well as having a rather distasteful theme of unwitting incest.

Unfortuantely, the downside to this book is that it contains "Antigone" and "Oedipus at Colonus". While "...Colonus" is moderately entertaining, Antigone is an annoying character due to her extreme stubborness. However, this is saved by the sheer quality of Sophocles' writing. This translation also has notes at the end, to help new readers to undrstand some of the more obscure references.

These three plays are the best you'll come across. The finest tragedies ever written.They are also quite controversial for todays standards with some complex inbreeding.A must for anyone of any age. If you know nothing about the Ancient world you'll see it for the controversy, and if you know all about the ancient world you'll know that it surpasses any other work by any other author

I run a pre school for 3 & 4 year old children and was looking for a nativity play. This book was fabulous. All of the song tunes are nursery rhymes so the children are familiar with them already and they learn't them very quicly. It was really easy to follow, had photocopiable pages for you to send home for the kids and music for my piano player! The children really enjoyed doing it and the parents were amazed. A great buy I would thoroughly recommend.

I found this very entertaining to read. It is written aesthetically, (and this is maintained in the translation, not that I have read the original German), and is an engrossing story. I'm sure that there are many allusions and philosophical parables to be found in close study of the text, but I just found it an enjoyable read without having to take it too seriously. Mephistopheles is a brilliant comic character, but there are also subtle insights into the depth of his evil as well. The minimalism of the characters other than Mephistopheles and Faust is stylish and makes the story all the more memorable in retrospect. Reading this makes me feel that all stories should be written in verse, if only the authors were skillful enough.
