An absolute must for anyone studying Company Law at LLB level, 15 Oct 2006
This book is one of the easiest to read and understand. If you are studying Company Law on the LLB, I would highly recommend you purchase this book. Divided logically into neat chapters with self-explanatory headings, this book will take you through the maze of company law and teach you to enjoy its intricacies.
The book contains useful summaries of key cases and explains them alongside the legal principles involved so that you can easily recall and refer to them in exams.
Alone the book is not enough - you will need an additional casebook. However, if you are new to company law, then this is a good starting point. A relatively slim volume that is far cry from the daunting lengths of some legal text books, the book clearly defines the essential principles of its topic, without clouding the issue with thousands of footnotes and judgment extracts.
Highly recommended.

A comprehensive guide to the Companies Act 1985, 06 Dec 2001
This textbook gives a comprehensive guide to the relevant acts with regards to Company Law. It includes the Company Act 1985 as well as the relevant statutory instruments. However, the print is extremely small and quite difficult to read. It does however provide an excellent addition to more comprehensive company law texts and personally i have found it extremely valuable. For law students a statutes book well worth getting at a decent price.

The most up-to-date book on the market for exam use in Company Law, 07 Mar 2008
I pre-ordered this book for my Company exam in Jan 2008, it arrived the morning on the day of the exam and I have to say it was well worth the express delivery charge as this is the best book on the market for Company law, even better then the text books!
As ever this series offers students the opportunity to look at real exam questions and also provides a full answer to each question. The book covers all the modules one would expect to find on the LLB Company Law module.
The best thing about this book is that the questions incorporate the Companies Act 2006 fully into each answer and thats why this book sits ahead on its competitors.
A must for any Company law student!

I found the index easy to use, and I was quickly able to find the relevant sections. As a lay man with limited legal knowledge, I found the text easy to read, and the analysis easy to understand. Some of the credit for this must go to the book designers. The only negative point is the high price of the book. Craig Jallal MICS Editor - Lloyd's Shipping Economist London Jan 2001

Excellent, would recommend to all employment law students, 14 Jul 2008
Smith & wood's employment law is well written, interesting and not at all boring as the other review would suggest.
I used this book and only this book in my degree and got a 2.1. Some areas of employment law can be quite dry but that is no fault of the book. To gain the high grades you have to be prepared to do the reading and this book is extremely thorough, the writers' passion for the subject really shines through and makes it an interesting read.
The subjects are set out clearly. But if you are someone who likes bulletpoints and pretty diagrams etc then buy a nutshells book, but dont expect to get a good degree!
I will also be using this book for my masters degree in employment law.
Truly the most inaccessible law text book , 07 Jun 2008
Everything about this book is designed to make learning employment law a chore. From the poor layout and structure to the unengaging style of writing, this is certainly a text to avoid. I have yet to meet a single student with anything positive to say about this book and I can in no way recommend it. It seems I have paid £30 for something that will end up as a door stop.

This book covers much of the information, required on today's LL.B and LL.M courses. The references to the case law are very good and questions asked at the end of each reference point, draw the reader to the fact that there is more to do than just 'reading' the text. The cases are well summarised and often, it is not always necessary to read the full case, as the relevant points and judgments are all clearly marked. A very well laid out book, with ample commentary, obviously written in a modern context.

A trainer's perspective, 16 Jul 2004
As a an accredited trainer for the BCS/ISEB Certificate in Data Protection I am often asked to recommend text books. This for me is by far the best on the market today. I used the first edition of Peter's book and now recommend the latest edition. It wins for me because it is a 'readable' book that manages to explain the Act in clear language with good supporting illustrations and relevant case law without talking down to the reader. Unlike many legal books the reader is not faced with the need to constantly flick backwards and forwards in an effort to understand the references. The inclusion of the Act and other legislation in one volume is another added bonus. I'm not going to go so far as to say 'pack this in your case when you go on holiday' but I'm sure you get the message.
Highly recommended, 06 Mar 2004
The first edition of this book has been invaluable to me as a website designer. I am delighted to see this new edition contains a chapter on websites, privacy policies, use of opt-out clauses, etc. As far as I can tell, Carey’s book gives the best explanation of the law in a practical context of any text book out there. Highly recommended.

Well worth price paid. if you want to buy it for cheaper check out the internetunder the 'books' tab its £price cheap huh!

A thorough investigation into the subject., 04 Jan 2001
A good point of reference., 28 Mar 2004
This book covers much of the information, required on today's LL.B and LL.M courses. The references to the case law are very good and questions asked at the end of each reference point, draw the reader to the fact that there is more to do than just 'reading' the text. The cases are well summarised and often, it is not always necessary to read the full case, as the relevant points and judgments are all clearly marked. A very well laid out book, with ample commentary, obviously written in a modern context.
It is a good and comprehensive Business Law book with cases, 26 Jan 2002
Well, basically,if are non-law degree student or perhaps you wanna to do some study on your own about the bacic Business Law,this is a right one for you. This book contains a lof of useful law cases study and some important points has been hilighted ib bright blue color as well for us to read.
Easy Read for Students, 11 Apr 2005
I bought this book on a recommendation from a lecturer and found it to be very useful. At the time I was studying a HND and had no previous knowledge of law, but this book is easy to read and the case studies help you to understand even more.
Scottish Business Law, 23 Sep 2002
As a Director of a small Scottish Company I find this book invaluable as a reference. The book is extremely readable for anybody with no legal background (like myself) and the case studies are a great help in reinforcing the text. Well done to Moira and Sally for distilling such a massive and complex subject into such a readable, and useful, book.
Understandable and interestingly written, 15 Sep 2000
This book is an excellent introduction into Scottish Buisness Law for students. It was written by two lecturers as a concise and understandable alternative to the lengthy law books which were previously all that was available. It is easily read as an interesting book on its own or equally as good to "dip into" on particular legal topics. It contains over 100 intersting case studies on the seven main categories it covers, Law of Contract, Sale of Goods, Consumer Protection, Law of Agency, Buisness Orginisations, Law of Delict and Employment Law. As well as being an ideal foundation book for new students it could prove an invaluable friend to small buisness owners to guide them in the right legal direction.
