The most informative guide on property tax, 22 Oct 2008
The guide is really comprehensive, covering all the key property tax aspects, with a few new ones added. In particular the chapter on capital gains tax really opened my eyes. The book is well laid out and you can find key areas easily, plus the authors writing style makes it a much more enjoyable read than others.
How to Avoid Property Tax - Excellent book, 09 May 2008
This really is an excellent book. I am a complete beginner when it comes to property tax, however the initial chapters and especially the chapter on capital gains tax really opened my eyes to the savings I could make. Everything was explained clearly and I'm glad I paid for this rather than spending hundreds on a tax advisor.
Fantastic book, well written and up-to-date!, 16 Jan 2008
This is an impressive guide, especially as it contains the recent prebudget capital gains changes which weren't found in any other books! It provides a very good in-sight into capital gains and clearly outlines what you can do to cut down on the amount of tax you need to pay. It really is a must if you plan on buying or selling your property.
Invaluable property guide, 25 Oct 2007
I'd say that this is the best value property tax guide on the market. It has really built up well over the last few years into a very comprehensive, well written and well illustrated guide which I think is invaluable especially in this day and age.
A must read for any property investor, 16 May 2007
This is a must read for any property investor. It gives the reader an understanding of the tax implications of differing property investment strategies. Colin Vint - Mortgage Broker

Good overview of tax havens, 21 Oct 2008
This book provides a good overview of the major tax havens out there. It lists the main places that you might already be aware of, and some others you would never have thought of. The author is able to describe each tax haven clearly with the advantages of each, and then later in the book describes ways of using offshore companies. I enjoyed reading it and its worth a look if you're thinking about moving offshore.
Good summary of different tax havens, 17 Jan 2008
In the last few months we've been thinking about living abroad, but with so much information out there it was hard to know where to look, who to talk to and who to believe.
Thank god we read this book as we were able to read assessments of all major tax havens and decide which was the best for us. This book is really a must for anyone considering moving offshore.
Good overall guide to tax havens, 13 Jul 2007
The problem with other books on tax havens is that they only ever seem to cover a few main countires and tend to generalize others together. Thankfully this book details the major tax havens and allows you to accurately assess which place would be the most suitable for you and also offers further advice with minimizing tax offshore. Without it I'm sure that my wife and I would not be as confident when planning our retirement and moving abroad.
Does exactly what it says in the tin!, 25 Aug 2006
A fascinating read. This book takes you step-by-step through all of the countries considered to be "tax havens". I found it most intriguing to see the different ways in which you are taxed by all these different countries and if I didn't already know what a raw deal we get here in the UK, I do now! The second half of the book goes in to a fair bit of detail on how to best structure such a move. I found many of the tips extremely useful and I have no doubt that this little gem will be referred to constantly when we come to make our decision.
Goldmine of info for the aspiring UK tax exile., 13 Jun 2006
Published in April 2006, this book is an up-to-date goldmine of information on the increasingly prickly subject of offshore tax planning. Written primarily for the British reader, it lists and describes the pros and cons of what the author considers to be the very best tax havens, as well as explaining the best ways to legally exploit the relevant benefits such countries offer.
The book is written in nicely paced, well paragraphed plain English and minimises jargon, although there remains a lot of fundamental tax-speak to be taken on board by the novice, on which note a glossary would have been very helpful.
Overall, this is an exciting and very interesting book for anyone keen on keeping as much of their hard-earned money from the clutches of the tax man as possible.

Im glad I bought this book. It clearly explains the current inheritance tax legislations and scenarios that one may face when claiming your tax back. I found the examples and various tips very helpful and am much more confident now about my family's future. Inheritance tax, 25 Oct 2007
This guide on inheritance tax is relatively easy to understand - sometimes I found it a little over my head but with some thought and focus I'll get there! I now feel alot more prepared dealing with my taxes after reading through this. One of the best, 09 Jul 2007
I have bought several tax guides and never used them because they were not helpful, however this book was fantastic. I have been reading up on inheritance tax and have never learned so much than I have from reading this guide. Great stuff! A great source of IHT information, 25 Aug 2006
I would have to say this is probably the best book on inheritance tax I have read. The clear examples used made it very easy for me to understand exactly what was going on with my current IHT situation and I have no doubt that many of the tips will help me reduce my final bill quite significantly. There's a lot of very good info on trusts and how they can be used to cut inheritance tax. A complete beginners guide., 02 Aug 2005
A clear, simple explanation of a very complex subject. Worked examples add to the clarity. Gives the status of the law in early 2005. In some areas, e.g. trusts, you may feel the need to get further explanation but this book gives sufficient detail for most people. Gave me enough knowledge to be able to talk, and argue, with the IFA and put forward a proposal that suited my family.

No-nonsense advice for non-residents, 25 Aug 2006
This book answers all the questions we had about becoming non-resident for tax purposes and more. The plain-English style in which it is written was a welcome break from the other - frankly rather confusing - books we had read on the subject in the past. There's also lots of information for people who are not UK domiciled and chapters on using offshore trusts and companies. Anyone who is even considering non-residency status should have this on their bookshelf.
An Excellent Book, 07 Jan 2005
If you're interested in finding out about leaving the UK to reduce your taxes or about the pros and cons of offshore trusts and companies, this book is definitely worth reading. I found it contained a lot of information and examples but was also easy reading, which is rare for a tax book! There's also info on the benefits of being non domiciled, ie having another country of origin. The book explains non domiciles can keep assets out of the country and escape tax altogether. All in all I would have no hesitation recommending it.

Overall, this is an exciting and very interesting book for anyone keen on keeping as much of their hard-earned money from the clutches of the tax man as possible.
Colin Vint - Mortgage Broker Everything you need to know about inheritance tax, 22 Oct 2008

This is a must read for any property investor. It gives the reader an understanding of the tax implications of differing property investment strategies. Colin Vint - Mortgage Broker Good overview of tax havens, 21 Oct 2008
I'm not a big reader however this book kept me going right to the end.
A Great Read, 02 Mar 2006
Unfortunately it's not at straightforward as the previous poster is suggesting. Both the UK and Spain domestic tax rules can levy CGT on the disposal of assets for both residents, as well as where assets are located within their jurisdiction. This is where double tax treaties come into play, and in the case of a Spanish resident owning property in the UK, the double tax treaty articles 13 (1) and 24(4) can ensure that any gain is taxed in the UK. Fortunately, you can usually avoid UK CGT by remaining non resident for a period of at least five complete tax years. In terms of Spanish tax, whilst the Spanish may be able to levy tax on the gain, the current position is that in practice many residents have found that the Spanish revenue authorities have not been interested in the gain arising in the UK. So the book is in practice correct and a very interesting and informative read to boot.
I wouldn't trust it, 26 Feb 2006
At only 122 pages it's only about as thick as a magazine, this would be fair enough if it was accurate... however the area I was interested in regarding the sale of property in the uk while a resident in Spain as covered page 37-38 states I would escape capital gains tax altogether IS INCORRECT. The author does not understand the the concept of dual tax treaties which stop someone from paying tax twice but does not help in avoiding tax, so even though article 13(1) states that capital gains from immovable property MAY be taxed in the country it is situated (ie the UK) it does not prevent the Spanish from also taxing it if you are resident there (WHICH THEY WILL AT 15%), the author needs to understand MAY does not mean MAY ONLY.
Great read for people thinking of moving abroad, 02 Aug 2005
I found this book extremely useful. We have been considering a permanent move to Spain, and although I was aware that this move could have favourable tax implications for us, I didn't know just how much we would save or how many options were open to us. The examples used made things much clearer to me, as I had been struggling to get my head around some of the more complicated tax matters involved. A real eye-opener, thanks.

Extensive guide to foreign property, 21 Oct 2008
This is the kind of book that you'll be constantly coming back to for years to come. It covers everything from tax on foreign property, foreign property trading, foreign exchange, capital gains and then chapters on individual countries and how their tax systems work. No stones left unturned and the author is extremely detailed with all his explanations, case studies and examples - what more could you ask for?
Very User-Friendly, 19 May 2008
I thought the book was really user-friendly and the imaginary case studies brought it to life. I'd recommend buying this before you get carried away checking out properties on the internet! At the end of the day, it is a good idea to get advice from your accountant or a property tax specialist but reading the book is very worthwhile. Easy to read and you can just skim to the relevant chapters. I read most of it on the flight back from France!

Colin Vint - Mortgage Broker Good overview of tax havens, 21 Oct 2008
The most informative guide on property tax, 22 Oct 2008

This is a must read for any property investor. It gives the reader an understanding of the tax implications of differing property investment strategies. Colin Vint - Mortgage Broker Everything you need to know about inheritance tax, 22 Oct 2008
Anyone who is even considering non-residency status should have this on | | |
