Just what a beginner was looking for, 02 Jul 2008
As a complete beginner, overwhelmed by all the books on scrapbooking out there, I'm glad I chose this one.
Particularly helpful to me was the list of items you need to get started, and the information on how to trim and display your photos.
Great book, 13 Nov 2007
I just LOVE this book! Good layout ideas and properly explained for the beginner. I find myself referring to this book again and again and again. Especially when I think my LO's are getting 'busy' looking, it makes me rethink my LO to get a page that is much cleaner and keep focus on pic that the Lay Out was intended for in the first place. Highly recommended from me,( a beginner!)
Perfect for the beginner, 02 Feb 2006
A smashing little book suitable for the absolute beginner. It only has 48 pages but covers everything you need to know to make a start on scrapbooking including tools & materials, cropping, matting, colours & layouts, journalling & eyelets & embellishments. I bought it as a gift for a friend completely new to scrapbooking and am very pleased with it. I particularly like the fact that it's not obsessed with the distressed look which some designers seem to be at the moment. If you're familiar with scrapbooking it would not be a lot of use to you but, as I said, perfect for the beginner.

Fantastic resource!, 03 Jun 2007
What an amazing selection of pictures of the 1970s! I spent hours pouring over this, reliving the memories of my childhood and teenage years; and my class of 10 and 11 year olds were fascinated to look and see the way things were when their teacher was young!
If you are into scrapbooking, or if you have strong memories of life in the 70s, this is the book you want! it will take you right back, and will remind you of fashions, packaging and even flavours of that era!
Memory Lane, 17 Aug 2005
What a fantastic trip down memory lane! I bought the 1970's book for my husband's 45th birthday and we spent a brilliant time flicking through and remembering some great sweets and not so great clothes! We enjoyed it so much that I bought the 60's version for a friend's 50th birthday and she was delighted! A book that will be returned to again and again - ours now takes pride of place in the loo!

Mister Opie's tenth wonderful Scrapbook carries on with the same unique presentation, each themed spread has one big still-life photo filled with packaging and printed matter. The items are carefully arranged so you can get an appreciation of what they looked like and don't be put off because the book has only sixty-two pages, it opens up to spreads twenty-one inches wide by fifteen deep and includes 1400 items in color.
Like the other Scrapbooks what is shown is the everyday stuff that could be found in any British home and as this is the Seventies, one spread is devoted to the change to decimal currency in 1971. The spread for groceries and the one for cleaning and toiletries probably show more than two hundred examples of packaging. Pop music with four spreads is a bit too much though. The list just goes on, fashion, television, cigarette packets, comics, film posters, board games, confectionary, car brochures, football, magazine and newspapers and more and more. Every time I look through these Scrapbooks I find something I hadn't noticed before.
If you are interested in what printed matter and packaging was in the average home during the Seventies this book will show you.

CREATIVE GENIUS, 18 Jun 2008
This book is an extension of the fabulous website Becky runs. Definitely lots of new ideas, particularly for "budding" scrapbookers. As a "seasoned" scrapbooker, I found lots of inspiration and helpful prompts to be a bit adventurous. Found the cards very useful when attending a recent craft/stamping fair as I knew exactly what I was after and the "look" I was attempting with my pages.
a creative nudge, 09 Jun 2008
this echoes the popular scrapbook magazine feature - each page (or double page) covers an outline pencil sketch and a number of different real scrapbook page results. The added bonus here are the pages of pop-out 'page recipe cards' at the end, intended as a handbag sized reference to each sketch whilst shopping for stash.
the pages shown are well done, but very similar in style to the monthly american magazine product. You get your money's worth - there are well over 50 sketches, and the photos are bright and clear. I enjoyed browsing, its well laid out, and easy to follow, but there's no cutting edge originality here. Great if you need a creative nudge.

I am a Year 6 teacher, and in History we are covering the period from 1948 to the present day. I was short on resources to start with, and was pointed in the direction of these books by one of the parents ... I have to say, the whole series is TERRIFIC!!!
This one took me right back to my early childhood! (I was born in '64 - so it's great for me!) It also gave the children a terrific idea of what life was like on the '60s. One of their challenges this term has been to produce a 3D diorama in a shoe box - and, as I'm sure you'll imagine, it has been an invaluable research tool for fashions, toys, products and gadgets of the era!
I love it, and hope you do as well! 1960s scrap book - very helpful, 14 May 2005
i found this book very helpful as i used it for many essays throughout school. it has many helpful facts but it wasnt just used by me it was used throughout the familly. my parents loved looking at all the old magazines and items in it. i loved it and it was worth every pennny 1960's Scrapbook (a trip down Memory Lane), 20 Oct 2004
I was SO impressed with this book. My family were less so after suffering hours of me shouting "Look at this, i had one of those" and "I'd forgotten all about those, they were brilliant". I was born in 63, so some things i didn't remember, such as some of the album covers, the boys toys, cars etc. But having an older sister we recognised things that she had. (Especially the Twiggy cut-out book!) This is a marvellous book in many ways. It can provide a talking point with family and friends and my son was able to use it for an art project at school. I'm eagerly waiting for the 1970's scrapbook (ordered, just waiting for it to arrive). These books are a must for all nostalgia fans.
PHENOMENOL !!!, 12 Apr 2003
I love nostalgia...especially '60's nostalgia...BUT, so often the books and TV shows produced are thin and disappointing. This book is neither. Every single one of these vast pages is crammed with images of so long ago. It is a feast for the eyes. Nostalgia for the soul. The tremendous British culture, both pop and otherwise, of the 1960's deserves a book of this quality and calibre, so does anyone who loves and remembers Britain in that incredibly colourful and creative time. As someone who was a small child then, I especially appreciated the pages dedicated to childhood imagery...the comics, the TV shows, the toys, sweet packaging, a whole page dedicated to ice cream packaging and advertising alone!(ZOOM, Orbit, Fab, even Kinky has not been forgotten)...it's all here and more... The print, the colour, the presentation is of tremendous quality and generosity. Not a single corner has been cut. I can't wait to give this book to everyone I know who has even the slightest memory or love for Britain in the '60's. Three cheers and Bravo! to every single person who was involved in creating this absolute masterpiece!

An excellent little book., 06 Mar 2007
I borrowed this book from the library, and was so impressed with it I bought my own copy. I wasn't a complete novice when I bought it by any means, but it gave me quite a number of new ideas. I dip in and out of it quite often actually. Some very useful website addresses in it too. A very useful addition to any scrapbookers library.

What a fantastic resource!, 04 Jun 2007
I am a Year 6 teacher, covering the period from 1948 to the present day with my class in History; and this book has been invaluable to us in our History work this term! The pictures and information hidden in its pages is amazing - particularly for one who was too young to remember the era (I wasn't born till 64!)
One of my class's challenges this term has been to produce a 3D diorama relating to a decade from the 1950s to the 1980s; and this series of books has been an invaluable resource for fashion, toys, produce, sweets and toys of the relative decade.
Thank you, Robert Opie, for your impeccable research!
Whether you were born in this era or not, I am sure you will love the book. Enjoy!

A great source for using in reminiscence with residents in nursing homes, many pages of products that instantly takes you back to special times.
Trafficking in the past, 21 Jul 2004
"Or is it just the past? Those flowers, that gate, / These misty parks and motors, lacerate / Simply by being you; you / Contract my heart by looking out of date." [Philip Larkin: Lines on a Young Lady's Photograph Album.] Actually, Larkin's poem Essential Beauty might be more appropriate: the empty but beguiling visions of perfection seen on so many pages in this book - how old, how quaint, but still the sense there is something here which could be touched - even though the land of lost content is garishly painted it still calls to us. Or me, anyway. Most bizarre, though, is a front cover of the magazine Picture Post. Tommy Steele, cadmiumed to the max (Judith Chalmers is pallid by comparison) grins out at us, but the headline is: "CATTLE TRAFFIC THE TRUTH."

Highly recommended from me,( a beginner!) Perfect for the beginner, 02 Feb 2006
Another fantastic Classroom resource, 04 Jun 2007

The Best Scrapbook Ever Made..?, 08 Jun 2007
In 1946 having presumed Henri Cartier-Bresson dead, a posthumous exhibition of his work was prepared in New York. Henri, upon finding out this amusing mistake, arrived in New york with a scrapbook containing 300 of his favourite images. He presented this to the gallery as a suggestion for his retrospective exhibition. The above gives insight into why, despite it being difficult to show anything new about such a celebrated photographer, this book is still unique.
Thames Hudson along with the Foundation Cartier-Bresson, have lovingly restored this facsimile of Henri Cartier-Bresson's famous scrapbook down to the smallest detail. The result is a fresh and new look at Cartier-Bresson
This huge beautifully bound volume gives a unique insight into what Cartier-Bresson himself thought was his best work. It also shows the context in which he chose to put it. Additonal information is provided by a wonderfully written forward by Martine Franck an introduction by Agnes Sire and an essay by Michel Frizot
In summary this book is a thing of beauty and a wonderful glimpse into the world of one of photography's true greats. It's also a book I fully expect to visit again and again. If you are an afficionado of Bresson you will still find this book a valuable addition to your library. If you have never been introduced to Henri Cartier-Bresson then this book will knock your socks off.

Excellent starter set - everything you need to start scrapbooking, 27 Aug 2008
I bought this set as a real starter set. Never having scrapbooked before I was starting from scratch, and this set definitely had everything needed to get me going. A good selection of papers, glue, photo mounts...even scissors that were good quality themselves. The book itself is a large neutral brown, which is stylish and sturdy.
I tend to shop around and this was one of the least expensive sets that I could find - but it is not at all cheap in quality. I don't think the photo really shows the set off for the excellent value, impressive standard of product that it is.
It would be perfect for anyone starting scrapbooking, for a gift or even for a child to start collecting mementos and memories.
All in all, I have nothing bad to say about this lovely set, and would recommend it whole heartedly.
Great Value for Money, 27 Feb 2008
I am new to scrapbooking and I bought this kit for my first attempt. I am really impressed at what you get for the money! The album itself isn't fancy but because the cover is of a brown recycled material, you can decorate it to look however you want it to look rather than be stuck with a colour or a theme!
I was amazed to see that the pack included crinkle cut scissors together with plastic and cardboard templates, card, paper, glue, and mounts.
I think that this item represents excellant value for money and I will be buying the kit again and again for other projects.
I would definately recommend this item.

Another fantastic Classroom resource, 04 Jun 2007
Enjoy!
Brill!, 24 Jun 2006
Tommy Steele, cadmiumed to the max (Judith Chalmers is pallid by comparison) grins out at us, but the headline is: "CATTLE TRAFFIC THE TRUTH."
time travel is possible!, 28 Nov 2001
fancy a trip back to the 1950s? climb into your time machine open the front cover and you're there, pay a visit to a sweet shop you can pick up a tiffin bar for 6d or frys 5 boys for 3d, pop into the chemists for some gleem toothpaste this is a magical ride through the '50s crammed with over 1000 sumptiously photographed products, some are still going strong today others lost in the mists of time .a fabulous book
I would definately recommend this item.
the best scrapbooking book (and i own a lot!), 29 Feb 2008
This is my absolute favourite scrapbooking book. Ali Edwards is amazing (check out her blog), this book is full of brilliant layouts but also a lot of text, advice and challenges. She inspires you to use that stack of patterned paper you may have aquired if you've been scrapbooking for a while, but also to expand your scrapbooking, using paint, using canvases, and displaying your art in your home. This is an absolute must-buy. Well worth the money.

Getting nearer to yesterday, 27 Nov 2004
