Enjoyable chemistry!, 23 Jan 2002
As an aromatherapist undertaking further study at University level I found this book invaluable. My understanding of chemistry was dire but this book, written for aromatherapists, beauticians, retailers and students, will appeal to everyone, whatever their level of chemistry understanding. It covers basic chemistry, hydrocarbons, functional groups, essential oils and carrier oils, odour properties of essential oils, quality control, isolated and synthetic fragrance materials, perfumery, personal fragrances and a wonderful chapter - 'Burning the Midnight Oil' which includes how to get the best from your studies, exam tips and model answers. The glossary is extensive and invaluable as a quick reference source and the index is comprehensive. In a nutshell this is a chemistry book which is simple, concise and, at times, humorous. A book I would not be without.

A good reference text for degree-level and beyond., 07 Feb 2002
This book covers the theory and interpretation of X-ray and neutron scattering clearly, yet with sufficient detail for degree-level courses or post-graduate research and beyond. While there are one or two omissions of methods for interpreting scattering curves, this book is, in my opinion, considerably better than many other texts on the subject and provides an excellent reference work.

The standard text for teaching polymer chemistry., 26 Jun 1999
The number of concepts covered in this book is amazing -- I learn something new with each reading. The book is also great for pointing you to the leading references in the field; although it is lacking decent coverage of living polymerization. Odian's book is not easy to read. For a chemistry book it includes relatively few chemical structures or mechanisms, so for students who don't already know chemistry it is a rather useless introduction A better introductory polymer chemistry book is by M. Stevens.

excellent and detailed approach to polymer physics, 10 Oct 2003
This book is excellent for someone wanting an introduction to polymer science and at the same time have a level of detail generally not found in other books on this topic. It is strongly recommended as an introduction to polymer physics, especially because it covers a lot of important issues in a easy-to-understand, but rigorous fashion.

Great explanation of this very relevant topic, 16 Sep 2007
Came to it with only a basic understanding of plastics and now feel alot more emlightened. Helpful to understand basic organic chemistry but all well explained.
