`Really Rotten Experiments is simply oozing with info.', 12 Mar 2007
If you have read the regular `Horrible Science' series of books,
you will be aware of the way in which NICK ARNOLD puts knowledge across, in a humorous way. This book is no exception.
Large paperback format - the colourful, humorous cover opens to 100 pages, split over 8 chapters:-
Introduction
A visit to Rotten Road....and a warning!
Bloody body experiments
Baffling brain experiments
Wicked wildlife experiments
Crazy chemistry experiments
Foul physics experiments
Fearsome finale
with black and white illustrations/cartoons/'bet you never knew' boxes throughout.
`This Horrible Science book is bulging with `rotten' experiments. `Really rotten' experiments. The sort of experiments that you should only try if you want to stagger a scientist or torture a teacher. Experiments that offer awesome answers to strange scientific secrets such as:-
How can water walk?
What goes on in your stomach and why?
How big does your bladder get?
How can lizards walk up walls?
And what happens when you put a teacher in the deep-freeze for a very long time?'
Great stuff, 01 May 2006
A fantastic book.
My only warning is that you will hear the words "we could do this one" time after time after time!
It makes science really easy to understand and holds the interest well.
The cartoon style drawings are great and really appeal to the reader. This is great as the age range of this book is normally when pictures are starting to disappear from their everyday reading books and so many children really miss them.
Great Book!!!, 29 Nov 2003
Just for start this book is in a full-size edition. It haves a lot of experiments, with the topics:"Bloody Body Experiments","Baffling Brain Experiments","Wicked Wildlife Experiments","Crazy Chemistry Experiments" and "Foul Physics Experiments".Some of the experiments are:How to do a green slime, how to do a sick stomach, how to do a 3-d monster, how to do a fizzy drink from blowing up and how to do a flour volcano and a lot more really rotten experiments!Plus you know the 3 most stupid experiments from the history, who won the Nobel prize for create pong-free underpants and how it works, and meet a flying frog. And for do the experiments you meet the school guys from the Rotten Road School. In another words:this book is really cool!!!!

Very good, 20 Aug 2007
I bought this book for a friend and ended up borrowing it back. The activities are simple to carry out with clear instructions and have been well thought out. The science behind each activity is clear and easy to understand. If you have a child who's interested in crime-solving then this book is a must! Some activities need an adults help to carry them out properly, but I really enjoyed taking the time to do these with my kids.

A really fun classroom addition, 28 Jun 2007
I ordered this book as an addition for my Renaissance unit. It includes some really fun hands-on activities that are exciting and demonstrate the varying interests of Leonardo Da Vinci. There is also background information before each activity. I am looking forward to the projects my students will create!

Wonderful, 27 Mar 2006
These books have just the right balance of fun and education. They are structured classically and scientifically starting with equipment needed (all very easily obtained), the procedure, what you should observe and ending with an excellent clear explnantion of the science behind the observation. Our two children aged eight and ten are really enjoying using these books. I believe science is fun and unlike 'school-type' curriculum science these books provide a way for children to explore and find out about the world around them for themselves.

The Very Best Reference - From an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control., 29 Dec 2006
The book cover almost every single instrument used in the process industry for Process measurement and Analysis of the most common process variables. The book covers Flow, Level, Temperature, Pressure, Density, Safety and Miscellaneous Sensors (Vibration, Shock, acceleration, torque, noise, etc.)
One of the aspect that I find more appealing is that at the beginning of each chapter you find an application and selection oriented overview and an orientation table for the process variable covered in that chapter of the book. The tables list all the different types of sensors and summarize the features and capabilities, as well as approximated prices, accuracies and characteristics of each one. If you need a sensor for a particular application, you can narrow your options and then go to the sections of the book that covers in details the selected sensors.
If you work with Industrial Instrumentation you will find this book to be a very valuable tool in your day to day job, either if you specify, install, maintain or operate them.
This handbook has almost 2000 pages of really useful information.
I have been working in the Process Industries for more than 16 years as an Automation, Instrumentation, Process Safety and Process Control Engineer. I consider this book to be the very best in the field, and it is really an Excellent reference for anyone and everyone working in these areas or in areas related with their Industrial applications.

This review refers to the 'SPECIAL' edition of this title, please see the note below., 28 Feb 2007
n.b This review is for the 'SPECIAL' edition - Amazon are currently showing the reviews for both this and the 'Explosive Experiments Book + Cards' version as the same but the book that comes with the latter is regular sized and has 128 pages.
`Explosive Experiments gives you the red hot details of dodgy experiments that have set the world of science alight! Follow the wobbly path of scientific discovery and find out..... which scientist blew up his Barbie in an experiment who tried, and failed, to get rid of his fingerprints with acid. how scientists tracked down the chemical cause of cheesy socks. You'll also have a chance to meet `Horrible Science's' own team of oddball experts, and try some horribly exciting experiments. Find out how to make your own artificial sick....what you need to make the moon `shrink'....and,........if you've got the nerve to stand under a bucket of water. - all in the name of science! Science has never been so horrible!' Slightly more expensive than the regular `Horrible Science` series, `Explosive Experiments' is one of the `Specials' and stands slightly higher at c8.5" high. 192 pages, split over 8 chapters:- A testing time Murderous medical experiments Baffling brain experiments Nightmare nature experiments Curious chemistry experiments Frantic forces experiments Experiments with blasts and bangs Blazing light and electricity experiments with an introduction and an epilogue - An explosive tomorrow? Written in a variety of fonts in the usual Nick Arnold entertaining style. Black and white illustrations/cartoons throughout, as well as `Bet you never knew' fact-boxes, quizzes and `Horrible Danger Warnings`, e.g.:- `Kettle steam can scald you! Keep well away from the steam and get an adult to help you with this part of the experiment, otherwise your parents could get steamed up.'
A Brilliantly Written Book, 28 Mar 2002
A book that makes you think and laugh at the same time, a very rare quality in a science book. Full of educational experiments that don't make you think your doing "school work". I have read many of his books but it never ceases to amaze me how intelligently funny they are.
A fun filled book of experiments., 04 Jan 2002
The book is full of fun experiments. It covers all the aspects of science and includes guidelines for each of the experiments, it is also enjoyable to read and educational. The experiments include quizes after each section, to test your knowledge of the experiment covered. Overall, the book was very enjoyable and the experiments were very good. A good read all around.

Very good, 20 Aug 2007
I bought this book for a friend and ended up borrowing it back. The activities are simple to carry out with clear instructions and have been well thought out. The science behind each activity is clear and easy to understand. If you have a child who's interested in crime-solving then this book is a must! Some activities need an adults help to carry them out properly, but I really enjoyed taking the time to do these with my kids.
really good buy, 29 Sep 2007
this book is great every person who has every wanted to make a wood thingy/catapult/onager/ballista/etc which flings things (especially petrol dipped wood) this is a must have there are 7 projectsl. the one i want to make most the ballista looks like it would take alot of work but would be very worth it. so far i have made the onager (wild donkey) its great i used a bit of copper sheet instead of a whasher for the cup happy flinging
Interesting, 25 Mar 2006
Nice historical survey, good historical anecdotes, some nice small scale models. I'd like to see a bit more depth in the physics or engineering, to make the book more complete.
Perfect for beginner's level researchers, 23 Oct 2005
This is just the book I have been looking for. It contains information that is necessary for somebody who had never been to a research laboratory. The very basic details that more experienced co-workers will not always remember to tell are given very nicely in this book. It also includes information like those on the (sometimes untold) rules and etiquette of research groups, meetings and data presentation. These information may prevent a lot of painful experience and time loss. Therefore I consider this book a very useful reference for those who are new in research (like me).
I wish there was a book like that when I started in research, 11 Feb 2000
Five crowns seems not enough for this book! Anybody working in the molecular biology lab and a definite must have if you run or start your own lab (remember, grad students are not all that well off...). Funny yet informative, concise yet comprehensive, lots of practical information. Two eppendorf tubes up!

I would heartily recommend this volume to anyone fascinated by the complex relationship between mathematics and music.
