Clinical Ophthalmology, 16 Sep 2003
An excellent diagramatic and comprehensive book on clinical ophthalmology. It provides the reader with a solid foundation of knowledge within a wide range of subjects - covering eyelids, sclera, cornea, retinal, orbital ..... to trauma. The list is extensive! The variety of coloured photographs and diagrams enhances the text providing the reader with a step-by-step guide through conditions and treatments. An excellent reference text for all clinical practitioners to have.
A one-stop source, 07 Jun 2003
This book is heavy, large and over two inches thick. It is a omprehensive text book for the ophthalmology student. Full of very clear, coloured pictures and easy to read text. THe new edition (out may 2003) is truely great and is well recommended. It is a book for book lovers who need such a text. Buying it would save buying several other books, the pictures are worth it on their own.
Excellent textbook, 18 Sep 2000
I bought this book as an undergraduate, and perhaps for that purpose it is a little over the top, but nonetheless it is an amazing textbook. It is written very clearly and there is a minimum of unnecessary nonsense. Coupled with excellent colour photographs and this book is a great addition to any medic's bookshelf.
The definitive text for ocular pathology., 04 Dec 1999
Excellent text book with plenty of high quality photographs. Essential for all optometrists and ophthalmologists. A section devoted to presenting symptoms and possible causes could be a useful addition to the next edition. There is no mention of Eales disease in the index, but as far I as can tell this is the only ommission.
A cornerstone for ophthalmology, 30 May 1999
4 years ago, I had a one faith. This book will be Bible to me. That's all.

Ideal for RCOphth exams, 04 Oct 2007
Couldn't agree less with the previous review - perhaps it was written by someone who doesn't want anyone else to benefit from this book?
This book is laid out well, logical and written in a way that is easy to learn and memorise. The content of the book reads almost exactly as the RCOphth exam syllabus. Every area is covered and it contains all the ray diagrams you need. You won't need any other book for the optics part of the exam. I would say however that it is a difficult topic and I'd advise reading the book well in advance of the exams and reading it several times.
a very bad introduction to optics, 06 Jun 2007
If there were minus strars, I would have given this book a minus 5....Although it does cover all the optics topics required for the royal college exams, the way it is written is ambiguous and the presentation is really poor.. Bhan is a good alternative..

student DOs handbook, 26 Apr 2007
This book will tell you everything you need as a student DO. The science is explained in depth and is designed specifically for dispensing students. The main problem with this text book is the language. It can be very confusing and you may need to take notes and jot it down in note form to revise from more easily. My lecturer is always quoting from it and then translating into simpler sentences for our notes.

Good basic pocket / handbag sized BV easy reference, 25 Sep 2007
Well, it's a good basic pocket / handbag sized BV easy reference book. One in a series of several similar books on various aspects of practical everyday optics; useful to student and practitioner alike.
A bit pricey if anything, but a worthwhile investment which will outlast its immediate need for your PQEs. Go for it.

How to pass an optics exam... in a book!, 29 Oct 2002
The entire Schaum's series is great for learning how to understand problems (in this case in optics) and shows you how to get through examples that your lecturer hasn't *quite* explained properly. The entire Scahum's series is great and will help you get through exams, assignments or if you want to learn how to apply all that theory to real-life situations. This series has helped me through several exams and I highly recommend it to anyone!

The Ophthalmic Lenses Bible, 19 Oct 2003
The international bible for students of ophthalmic lenses. The only book worth buying on the subject, but it is not easy going. Pen, paper and calculator are needed at all times! The excercises (and answers) at the end of each chapter are a bonus.
Dry but very informative, 01 Oct 2001
A good book if you are a computer. It has all the dispensing information you could ever need but the format is, to put it mildly, dull. The pages are set out so that the text is squashed together making it very hard to read and there are no colour pictures to ease the monotony. The content is written in quite an old-fashioned style and the formulas etc are not well space out and it is hard to extract the information you want from just scanning the page as there seem to be so many numbers and strange signs and not many words. Having said all that, all the information you need is there but I would suggest buying another book by the same author [can't remember name] if you are studying as the layout and text of the new book are makes it a much easier read - with colour pictures!

That's all.
An invaluble asset to anyone involved with Optics., 25 Dec 2000
A very readable textbook that will serve to meet the requirments of Optometrists,Dispensing Opticians,Ophthalmologists and anyone who shares interests in this area. The book includes numerous clearly illustrated diagrams and easy to follow text.
Essential for Optometry students and DO's, 29 Jun 2008
This book is clear and easy to understand. This is a must for students in optometry and Dispensing Optometry. It goes into depth but is very easy to understand.
A good investment get hold of a copy.
student DOs handbook, 26 Apr 2007
Having said all that, all the information you need is there but I would suggest buying another book by the same author [can't remember name] if you are studying as the layout and text of the new book are makes it a much easier read - with colour pictures!
must have text!, 28 Jan 2002
millodots latest revised edition of the infamous dictionary lives up to the standard set by those that preceeded it. it does however have one obvious benefit..its even more up to date! its useful, easy to use and its pretty much everything that youre going to need whether you are a student or a practicing optom! i cant stress how useful it is to have on the shelf for those moments when you just cant remember an exact definition you need for an essay or when you need a little easily available info before a clinic viva! a great, must have reference guide!!
superb, 29 Dec 2005
I found this book really helpful and at the same time readable and witty! I particularly liked the inclusion of the section on Gonioscopy. This is a skill worth learning and this book gives you all you need to give it a go. I would like to have learned more about the accepted methods for recording the results obtained. Also, much more on headset B.I.O. which is also a skill worth perfecting. One or two sections could be expanded on a little. More fields examples would be great. This book was great value for money. I hope they will go on to produce more such enjoyable books on other subjects. A readable book like this on Binocular vision would be a best seller I reckon.
