A rich variety of puzzles, 18 Feb 2007
A very nice book, this one, with 100's of several types of puzzles, most of which I hadn't seen before including Corral, Deja Vu (a quite easy type for a change!), Eminent Domain, Alternate Corners, Variations of Battleships, Dominoes, End View, Hex Loops, Lighthouses, Minesweeper, Nurikabe, Rain Clouds, Skyscrapers (my own favourite), Spiral Galaxies, Snaky Tiles, Square Routes, Tents (another favourite), Fences, Pentomino Fences, Oxtails, Spokes & Number Place (Jigsaw Sudoku).
Plenty of original entertainment for puzzle enthusiasts for a fiver! Absolutely recommended.

A Book For All Occasions, 10 Oct 2006
This book was an enjoyable read. It was a nice, light paperback that could be picked up to fill in a few minutes at the end of a period of study or used to wind down after a hard days work. It showed the underlying maths in everyday problems and although it had some slow parts, the chapters were short enough to have a nice taste of the mathematical side of life without getting too deep in formulae and theories. I especially enjoyed the chapters on game show decisions and also about conmen and what they dream up. All in all, if you are looking for something light and non-taxing but something that broadens your understandings of practical maths, then this book is for you. However, for something challenging and highly mathematical based, another read would be fitting.
Entertaining for all, 01 May 2006
I AM a mathematician and had come across a few of the things in far more detail in other books before - which I'd also liked. Seeing these and other nuggets in this lighter book was great - I'm now re-reading bits, and am buying a copy for my dear old mum (who claims to be not at all mathematical but liked the look of it when she visited).
Thoroughly entertaining book, 09 May 2003
I thought this was an excllent book - full of interesting real-life situations and the maths that you never knew underpinned them. I particularly liked the chapter on karaoke singers and the maths behind 'in-tune' or 'out of tune' music.
Stimulating, wide-ranging and entertaining, 26 Mar 2003
As somebody who hasn't seriously touched any maths since my A level 20 years ago, I found this book a fascinating read. The chapters on music particularly interest me, and like other chapters they bring out ideas that I have not come across before. If you want complex maths, there are thousands of books that provide enough challenge - face it, you just have to look at ANY maths textbook for students. This book is surely not aiming at the people who want books like that. If you are like me, you are curious about the maths of everyday life but aren't particularly interested in sweating your way through algebraic proofs that can often get in the way of the seeing bigger picture. I wanted a book about maths that was fun, thought-provoking and readable, and for me this book is just right.
Too simple, 11 Mar 2003
This book has been rated too high so far in my opinion by other customers. I am a self taught mathematics fan and consider this book as hardly chalenging at all, which is one of the things that makes mathematics attractive to me. Whenever the authors (which isn't very often) decide to put things into formulae, they don't even explain where they come from. It is entertaining to read, however, but I would say the book should be recomended to people whose main interests lie within the humanities or for highschool teenagers, certainly not for adults with a background in mathematics.

GREAT BOOK - needs some supplementing but best for the beginner, 06 Nov 2007
THis book is superb, while a few reviewers say it is too vaguye on some things and too specific on others (which is true - it has to be vague on some areas where the grower has to use their own judgement, there is no recipe or 12-astep programme you must respod to your plants!)
Very light on its hydropoincs stuff - but in my view this makes it a FANTASTIC book for a beginner, taking you through all the key areas and giving you a good, easy and forgiving method of growing (soil) rather than tryinjg to elarn about growing and hydro all at once. That said his hydro section is one of the clearest and best illustrated overviews I've seen - nbot a detailed how to but a great starter.
THe book doesn't quite attain truly biblical level - I'd highly recommend partnering it with Jorge Cervantes 'Bible' as the two work perfectly in harmony with the areas of vagueness in one being more than compensated for by the detail in the other. If I had to choose just one it'd be TOUGH! If you're thinking of building a cabinet and going indoor this is the better of the two, if you're going big indoor or outdoor Jorge wins, but really buy them both! The Most Important Marijuana Book Ever, 29 Sep 2006
This is the most important Marijuana book ever. It is totally and absolutely unique. There is nothing else like it and everybody is copying it. If you haven't read this book then go look up the Cannabis Breeder's Bible and find out that the author is a Cannabis genetics expert with enough high yielding potent cultivation experience and photographs to back up everything. This is the book that changed the nature of the game. Indoor grows in the UK are indebted to this book and its author for changing the times. Potent resin plenty dense crisp crackling buds is what we want and this is exactly what the book delivers on every time. NOT ALL THAT GREAT, 24 Aug 2006
[]...author's opinoin i suppose...it is to technical in some part and too vague in others...i really doubt the author has 20 years experience...the growing experience does not come through in the book...poor photos...save your money and look at other books ...[] An all important guide, A must buy., 23 Feb 2006
Firstly, this book will convince without any doubt that cannabis should be legal. Greg Green is a user himself but despite that he gives a no bulls**t approach to the whole subject. Secondly the book is excellently writen providing both the pratical and theoriatical knowledge to grow fantastic plants in your own home! The step by step process is logical and the numerous pictures provide invaluable information on nearly every topic mentioned. I really can't stress how great a read this book is and how much it has helped me. You name a reallated subject with cannabis and its in this book. I promise.
Informative and a Fantastic Read, 02 Dec 2005
I have bought several books to do with the growing, cultivation and breeding of the recreational drug cannabis and have found this one to be by far the most informative and detailed description on such a large variety of topics which are involved in these three processes. As soon as I received the book opened it up and read it straight away. I must say that the diagrams and colour printed step by step guides where fantastic to see even though I am experienced in some of them I felt it revealing to see a how it 'should' be done and the useful tips which would help some of the most experienced of people in these subjects. Amust have for any cannabis conorsuer. YOU NEED IT!!!!!!!

Well worth the money!, 02 Sep 2007
This book is certainly worth the money! I would recommend it for any teacher - I've been teaching for 9 years and there were lots of new ideas in here I will be using. Highly practical, (and above all fun), games are in it. Great for your auditory and kinesthetic learners. Very easy to read. Sections are separated well. A book to have on your desk ready for any maths lesson!
Top book, 01 May 2003
A brilliant book for teachers and trainees, loads of ideas for mental/oral starters and even plenaries and especially for the kinaesthetic learners. I have used this with year 4 but it is just as useful right the way through Primary. Some of the games are very simple and importantly this book requires no special equipment, often no equipment at all. I really can't recommend this enough. It has been totally invaluable for my placement and I will continue to use it when I qualify. Highly recommended!

Excellent book, 24 Oct 2008
This is well written and thoroughly entertaining. I recommend it to anyone, especially those who are likely to have interviews soon. These kind of questions come up a lot.
Highly recommended!

fantastic teacher resource, 11 Nov 2008
I have used the team challenges in this book with years 7, 8 and 9 and now that they are used to them the pupils are delighted when they see the cards on my desk. The games encourage connected thinking - pupils have to work out what they are being asked to do, extract the necessary information, decide how to solve the puzzle and how to present their answers. I have started laminating the cards because I will use them again and again. These are also excellent for pupils who are held back by their writing/reading abilities as there is so much oral work involved.
Excellent Resource, 31 Oct 2007
I would give this book my highest recommendation. I have used the activities in it many times. My students find the activities fun, and they are always enthusiastic about completing the tasks. I just wish there was a book 2.

Disappointing repetition of old material, 24 Jul 2006
Gardner's original book, Mathematical Puzzles and Diversions, was excellent, which is why I wanted more of his books. Unfortunately, this book is simply a repetition of part of that original book, which now seems to be spread thinly and among a number of other books, with many fewer pages and much larger print. Seems like a deliberate reduction in number of words per pound sterling.
Food for thought, a whole meal....., 11 Jan 2004
I bought this for my partner, who loves the logic puzzles in the newspaper. There's certainly plenty in here to sink your brain into.....I flicked through the book first trying to spot the ones with 'obvious' (to me) answers - there were not many! Eventually I found time to sit down and think, and found that a lot of the puzzles can be worked through - without recourse to any advanced maths and calculus! (Of which I have none....having studied Film Theory at university) I don't think I'll ever be able to solve all of them though.....
A Splendid Collection From The Master, 03 Apr 1999
This is a fascinating collection of puzzles from the master of mathemagics. It's clear and undeniable: if you want the best in fun, challenging puzzles, buy anything written by Gardner or his heir apparent, Terry Stickels. You can't go wrong!!!

The title of this book is 'The Complete Book of Fun Maths: 250 Confidence-boosting Tricks, Tests and Puzzles'. Firstly, this book is NOT complete, it is NOT fun, it does NOT boost your confidence and it doesn't show you any tricks. This book is good if you want to solve puzzles, but thats it. I don't recommend it.

I have used this with year 4 but it is just as useful right the way through Primary. Some of the games are very simple and importantly this book requires no special equipment, often no equipment at all. I really can't recommend this enough. It has been totally invaluable for my placement and I will continue to use it when I qualify. Highly recommended!

fantastic teacher resource, 11 Nov 2008
Don't buy, 28 Dec 2005
The title of this book is 'The Complete Book of Fun Maths: 250 Confidence-boosting Tricks, Tests and Puzzles'. Firstly, this book is NOT complete, it is NOT fun, it does NOT boost your confidence and it doesn't show you any tricks. This book is good if you want to solve puzzles, but thats it. I don't recommend it.
Excellent product, 12 Jan 2008
I bought this book on end December 2007 for my father who is a very advanced Sudoku player. Unfortunately, there are not any advanced Sudoku books in the Greek market (where we live) so every time I have to buy for him books from Europe, where I travel alot. I have found very strong puzzle books in the UK and in Germany but the books containing techniques and strategies were always "basic" with rather obvious hints for the very advanced player.I didn't know the actual content of the book before buying it so I didn't have many expectations. My father was thrilled with it and after reading it he was able to implement the techniques in solving some diabolical puzzles that he couldn't before. He recommends it as the best Sudoku book he has read. 2 weeks later I ordered 2 more copies for his friends who were also amazed. Excellent choice.
Also excellent was the delivery by amazon.co.uk: I ordered the book in the middle of Christmas holidays and I was surprised to see it arriving 4 working days later - by normal post delivery!!!
I am extremely satisfied both by the product and by amazon services!

Excellent book, 24 Oct 2008
This is well written and thoroughly entertaining. I recommend it to anyone, especially those who are likely to have interviews soon. These kind of questions come up a lot.
